View Full Version : Sig P239 in .357 Sig - too much?
Can't decide if I should spring for the P239 in 9mm or .357 Sig. 9mm is said to be a real sweetheart in the 239, so how punishing is range time gonna be with the 357?
I guess I could always get a Bar-Sto 9mm barrel and 9mm mags and have both in one if I buy the 357 Sig.
I have a USP compact,a G32,and a 239 in 357,the Sig is the softest shooting of them all...You can get a 40 barrel and mags and have 2 calibers, but I don't think you can convert that easily to 9mm,the hole in the end of the slide is a different size...

One thing to consider is that the 357 and 40 P239's are heavier than the 9nn P239.I have a 357 P239 and it's not much smaller than the P229 and gives up some magazine capacity. The 9mm P239 is a really nice size for carry.
239 in all calibers is a pleasure to shoot.
Really.

Is there that much of a difference between the 239 in 9 mm and the 40 / 357 Sig? I thought there was only a slight difference in width.

The 357/40 caliber P239 weighs about the same as the Colt Lightweight Commander. It's as close to the P229 as it is the 9mm P239.The 9mm P239 is a nice ligher, slightly slimmer pistol with a larger magazine capacity.

Thanks, I never handled one. I never realized they were different.
Ordered my P239 in .357 Sig.
Might order a drop-in factory .40SW or Bar-Sto 9mm barrel & mags just to see what it's like. Plus it *is* cheaper to shoot since I don't reload. :wavey:
Turns out my concern about the .357 being 'too much' out of the 239 was unfounded - Took her out to the range yesterday and was surprised at how shootable the cartridge is out of the Sig. It's got less snap than my S&W alloy-framed TDA .45.
Add to the mix that wonderful Sig trigger and ergonomics that feel good to me and I just may have a new favorite pistol...
I'm glad you enjoy your 239,but I think I would've recommended that you buy the 40,and then a 357 barrel. The reason is that 357sig rounds will fit in both a 40 or 357 magazine, but the 40 ammo will not fit a 357 magazine.the front of the feed lips are apparently closer together. That said,if you get a 40 barrel, you will most likely have to buy mags to go with it...OR,just shoot 357 all the time...
