View Full Version : I caught an owl this morning
The pictures are clickable.
These next photos didn't turn out the best as the first one was taken through the patio door and the one after that, my lens was fogging up on me. Florida humidity. :upeyes:
The bluejays were yelling like mad at him and when he took off, they went right after him.
I like #1 the best as well, followed closely by #3. :thumbsup:
Yeah, me, too. I wanted to get #2 in there to show how small he was. At first I thought he was a baby, but when I did some reseach, I found out he/she is a burrowing owl and they are little guys. The baby owls do not have markings so this one is probably full grown.
Cool! I bet the kids loved seeing it so close! :)
Good for me - they were not up yet. Had they been out, this guy would have flown off and I wouldn't have gotten a picture. He kept watching me as it was.
What a sight - me crawling on the floor, reaching over to open the patio door, hoping my cats were nowhere nearby. :rofl:
The kids did love to see the pictures, though. They were very surprised to know we have one near here.
nice pics. like #3 the best. he has a kind of a 'proud' pose.
darn bluejays! :steamed: why does everyone pick on the owls? :steamed:
I know this post is a couple months old but if you or your kids are interested in learning more about these owls you can watch the movie titled "Hoot". I believe it was release in August of this year. There is also a book with the same name. My 8 year old loved the book and movie.

I have been Turkey hunting in the spring time for many years and one of the calls that I use is a barred owl call. This past spring I actually called in another barred owl with it. Just a heads up in case someone likes to photograph owls you could pick up an owl call at your local outdoors store. It is pretty neat to do.
The best owl site on the net;
this is so weird, coming home today i was shocked at how great the sky looked. the clouds were on 2 different levels(far apart) and clearing rapidly in front of a cold high pressure wave. one of those awesome sunsets where the sun is reflecting on the underside of the clouds and beautiful reds and oranges and purples were everywhere. i thought dang, why dont i have a camera with me, this happens everytime i dont have one with me.....then, i saw it. a very large owl was sitting on an electric line right on the side of the hwy. i slowed and looked as long as i could.
that's it, a camera is with me from now on.:fist:
