I have fiured several Kahr and I honestly believe that the Covert variation is the best model. I like the longer sight radius, longer barrel, reduced recoil and ease of cocking that the Covert offers over the PM/MK models. I alos like the ease of concealability and versatility of the Covert over the MK/PM/P/K models.

I really wish that Kahr woiuld recognize the virtue of these models and bring the back into production. Some shooters see them as a temporary hold between the large and small frame models, but I think they are a legitimate size in and of themselves. I think a P9 Covert is the best of both worlds: small when I need it to be, but large enough to shoot accurately when I have the luzury of an extended magazine.

I agree of course & believe that if the PM9 hadn't been released so soon after the Covert that they would have been MUCH more popular. They got lost in the shuffle for sure.

Don't they just produce them periodically as needed? I got my P9 Covert brand new earlier this year.

I agree that they're the best size for concealment, since they give you the better ballistics of the 3.5" tubes. There's quite a velocity difference with some loads between a 3" and a 3.5" tube, polygonally "rifled" or not.

As I understand it, in the Kahr universe, the covert is a transitional model from the full size to the micro frame. I'm not sure why they do this, they just do!!

Kahr still produces the P9 Covert and P40 Covert (Polymer Frame). However the K40 Covert (Steel Frame) was discontinued several years ago. I still believe the K9 Covert is a myth. I am willing to be proved wrong on this.

I agree the "Coverts are the best."

I owned a K40 Covert (replaced by Kahr with a MK40 because of a cracked frame) and currently own a P40 Covert.

YMMV

I love my P9 Covert, it is a great CCW pistol. I also believe th K9 Covert is a myth.

But can't you convert a P9 to covert with just a dremel tool and new mags.

Carry the K40 Covert. Excellent side-arm that I just can't see ever parting with. Bought it from a friend who carried it for 2 or 3 years, no problem.

Just now replaced the factory sights with night sights. Just when I began to think I couldn't love the gun any more...

jpshaw. Yes, you can cut down a P9 or P40 (Polymer Frame) and make it a P_ (Polymer Frame) Covert, but you can not cut down a K9 or K40 (Steel Frame) and make it a K__ (Steel frame) Covert.

Yep, did it to my first P9 (Shhh!) but I used the side of a grinder wheel. I stupidly traded it to a Vice guy who's wife had bought him a G27 (he wanted a 9 for UC work).
Now that I have a P9 again, I'm pondering doing the same thing to it (stop me before I grind again!!!);)

I only asked about converting P9s to coverts since the original thread talked about coverts being in short supply. I've been carrying my P9 since early 2002 and I'm actually very happy with its size as is.

I really like mine also. It would be even better if they came out with a full mag sleve for the 7 rounders. Kinda like they have them for the XD compacts.

I buy guns and if they dont keep my heart over a year, I sell them. The P9 covert is one that has. I dont shoot it a ton nor do I carry it as much since I bought my G23 but it has a place in my safe. Its my gun that I go to when I dont feel like carrying a gun. The great part about it is that its not a mouse gun, shoots great, good densive round, and it carries like its not even on.

Would you guys mind posting pics of your "conversions?" I would be interested to see how they turned out.

I was certain taht the Covert had been discontinued, but I may w3ell be wrong. If I am, I am quite pleased to be. They really do have a virtue all their own. So long as they are around, I can't ever see buying a PM9.

I just happen to have a P9 Covert tucked into a Kytac Pockit lockit holster in the front pocket of my shorts as I type.

I've had mine since Feb 04.

It came with a double trigger reset, the first of which didn't actually reset the trigger.
I talked to Frank Harris and Larry Meyer of Kahr. They referred me to Dottie who arranged for me to ship it back.

The turnaround was about a week. Shipping was paid for and I received a check for $15 for my trouble.

Gun runs fine. I have had no FTF FTE or any other malfs.
I run Gold Dot.

This was a BUG but during summertime it becomes my primary.

I like it
