Hello, I am a new poster here but have been visiting this forum for quite some time....much good information. I wanted to post on something that has not been touched upon in what I have read. I have put on a set of truglo tfo's on my glock 21. I love them, they are just really cool. I did notice however that the front sight is very long, four times the length of the standard dot that sits at the end of the barrel. I was told (after they were installed) that this would reduce the sight picture to that of a G30. Now, I dont know about you big Glock enthusiasts, but I like the full capacity, full barrel power and pointability of a full size glock at the range....so why would I essentially turn it into a compact weapon in terms of sight picture? I have been really thinking way too hard about this and have considered going to meprolights or something similiar where the front dot sits way up on the barrel....even though I love the truglo's! I would really like to hear from anyone who is knowledgable about these things and about sights and aiming. Thank you very much in advance.

They may decrease the sight radius of the pistol but do not effect the pistol's accuracy. I don't think it is any big deal if you are a good shooter.

I agree with Danny, but I will swap even for your front Truglo sight for on ogf my Mepro/etc. I realy like the Truglo and have them on all my Glocks now. Best< Robert;)

I too have recently purchased a set of Truglo TFOs for my G23. They are great. I went with the green front/yellow rear. This allows me to pick up the front sight instantly day or night. I used to have a lot of trouble picking up the front sight with the stock sights and would have to close one eye to get it initially.

I am curious though of how the length of the sight changes the point of aim. I have only had them out once and I noticed at 7yds they seemed to shoot a little high compared to the stock sights. I have heard that on night sights you put the dot on the target and on non night sights you put it on top of the sight. I have also heard that sights a "Zeroed" at a certain distance, does anyone know what the truglo TFOs are set at?

I am fairly new at this and if anyone has any infomation on how to pick your sight picture for different distances I would appreciate it.

Thanks Robert, I'm gonna more than likely hang on to them because they are soooo bright as you know, and really cool, but I had wondered about the sight picture.
Pdave...all I know is that if you look at a pistol from the side with the truglo front sight, the sight itself is very long, making the front dot much closer to the rear sights. I think for target shooting this is not very good, I was told it would give you a sight picture of a smaller pistol (the g30 to be exact) which would beg the question, other then than mag capacity why not just carry the g30. I just like full size frames because they feel better in my hands and in my experience point and aim better and im better at the range with them (for me anyway). I guess in a self-defense scenario the effect is minimal, but still why give even the slightest disadvantage to yourself...I mostly just enjoy the range anyway, but I too would like to hear more on this from anyone that has knowledge on this topic.

I just had the guys at Lonewolf install a set on my G19 - no change that I can notice while shooting it.

 'Change the sight radius to that of a G-30?' All of the large dot front sights will cover a target's, 'center ring' at 25 yards. So what? That's NOT what they're made for. What a dumb remark; don't waste your time thinking about it! ;)

What effect does shortening the sight picture (slide length) have?

I have a Glock 23 w/TFO's and a Kahr PM40 w/Mepro's. There is a huge difference in size between them. When I look down the slide to aquire the target and front sight, I can not tell any difference in the depth of view. The front sight looks like it is right up against the rear sight on both guns.

Am I missing something here I should know?
