I will preserve the some of the K9 posts from NYPD Rant on this forum since NYPD Rant posts eventually disappear due to heavy traffic on that forum.

I recently had the pleasure of attending the KAHR K9 Remediation.

We were there all day from 6:30am to 2:45pm, don't be late or they'll send you back, there's only room for 30 per tour.

Supposedly, the KAHR people, changed every spring in the gun and polished the feed ramp. They also claimed to change the magazine springs, but in fact they gave us new magazines (though im not complaining).

The gun worked fine for me in the past, I just hope it continues. Supposedly if this remediation does not work, the job will make it unauthorized.

Will we be reimbursed?
Will we get a credit?
WILL THERE BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT?

i have the same gun, I had to goto the range for that too. they said it will be an annual process now, and the lucky guys with the Kahr will be going to seperate range dates once a year from now on. Also when asked if it was going to become deauthorized from guys who already have it, the range guy told me, it's still authorized AT THIS TIME, it may infact become unauthorized at a later date for guys who already have it and that they heard talk, but nothing concrtet

I brought my KAHR K9 to the range for remedeation, they test fired it no problem. I put 50 rounds though at the range then 50 more for qualification no problems. I took it home gave it a good cleaning carried it a few days noticed no problems. When I tried to eject the round in the chamber with a magazine with a new spring and 7 rounds the slide would not go back so the round would not eject. I brought it back to the range and they test fired it. With a 7 round mag it blew the mag out of the gun and stove piped the first round. The magazine spring was so tight it have no where to go. Normal range firing will not expose this problem because you start with the slide to the rear. Not posting this to start a panic but please if your KAHR has been remedeated with a round in the chamber slide forward new 7 round mag in pull slide to rear. I was walking around with a single shot pistol.

Problem I had w/ my K9 is the slide stop pin broke in two while I was at the range prior to remediation. I took it to the armorer there and was told it was a common problem w/ the K9. Hasn't happened to me since remediation and I put between 1-200 rounds through it a month. Have never had any feed problems with my K9, love it's size and accuracy.

I had a khar for a while but after having it nearly explode in my face one day at the range and all the other crap I hear about it I just said the hell with it and when back to carrying my glock 26 when off duty and as a back up.

All this uncertainty about the Khar has me nervous so I say the hell with it go back to what I know works best, my glock 26. as long as you dont limp wrist it it never has given me a problem, a little cleaning, oil and there you go. Though I wish the nypd didnt mess with the trigger pull :-(

I loved my Kahr as an off duty. I've had it almost since I started and I've never had a problem with it (other than it was a pain in the neck to break down).
I was forced to go to the range for "remediation". They said that the old Kahrs were fine, but the more recent ones had major problems (due to problems with quality control). The Dept (in it's infinite wisdom) decided that they had to "fix" all of them. Kahr came in and replaced many of the parts.
Long story short, my Kahr is useless. At the range, when we test fired it, it jammed many times. In the entire time I've had it, it jammed once (and that was really my fault). Some of the jams were so bad at the range this cycle that I couldn't clear them at all.
Now, before the comments begin, I have over 8 yrs on the job and I shoot 96+ consistently. I've never had a problem clearing a jam.
I brought up the problem to the instructors at the range and they said that there wasn't anything that they could do.
They ruined my off duty, which a great (reliable) gun.

We had the slide stop problem from day one w/ that gun. At first the stop would not hold the slide open if you hit it or even putit dn. They said they fixed the problem. But I never liked that gun but one person at the O/R liked it, (hated the Glock) because it was all steel. Very hard to take dn to clean. The slide stop breaking was very common on the guns we used daily. I still have my Glock 19 I did NOT remedeate it when we had to and I have literly 100,000 rds. through it w/o a problem. It is a very good hardy gun and will take alot. It suffered from bad press from one ahole up at the O/R. The phase 3 malfunction was more an ammo problem than a gun problem. The gun likes very hot ammo. Which we did not have at the the start of the 9mm program.

It is a magazine problem , but it is a problem with the remedeation and I doubt I am the only one with the problem. I would hate to think of how many cops are walking around with single shot pistols. My point is if you have had your K9 remedeated please check for this malfuction. It is not identifed by standard range firing because you load an 7 round mag, open slide, no round in the chamber at the range, but you do not carry it this way. Check your gun if you have this problem please post and go to the range and tell them.

I bought my k-9 in april of 1999. I've put thousands of rounds through it with no problems. I have not heard anything about this NYPD fix, and if they send me up there; I'll rather throw the gun away than let these yo yos at it.

After I had Kahr send me a replacement mag release, I haven't had a single problem with the 1000 or so rounds I've put through it.

You know, there is more that can cause problems with any particular firearm. Were they using ammo that was suitable for this gun? Were they lubing it correctly?

Not to put down any LEO out there, but cops aren't know for keeping their firearms checked, cleaned and lubed. Semi-autos are not load and forget tools. They need to be checked regualrly, especially if you are new to the said firearm and haven't had years of reliable service already with a spotty maintenance record.

My BIL is a cop and the only time he fires and checks his weapon is when he has to go to the PD range to recertify. I check my K9 Elite 98 several times a week for dust/dirt buildup and try to go to the range every other week.

Many other people have had exemplary service out of their Kahrs.
