Hi,

I"m planning to buy night sights for my Walther P99. I have 2 choices, either the Meprolight or the Trijicon. Any comments on either sights?

I prefer Meprolights over Trijicons. To me, they are noticeably brighter. I also like the white rings around the vials which are easier for me to see in daylight.

YMMV.

you have a at least 1 more choice......
Earl's does nightsights.....and if I am not mistaken you will even get them in a metalsight and not like the other 2 in plastic....

here they are listed (http://www.carlwalther.com/p99acc.htm)

other than that, there is places that can insert the "vials" in your excisting sights

I'm with Catbird. I have been very happy with my meprolight sights.

for the exact same reason, I went with Meps on my last home defense gun, and likely again on its replacement.

Uncut,
I am not sure what you mean by the other 2 being plastic? Do you mean the white inserts that the tritium sits in?

FWIW. I have a set of Meps and they are my favorite. But you have another option. Big Dot 24/7's. They have tritium too but are not nearly as good as the Meps as far as the night sight is concerned. But if you want something nice and big and easy to see in daylight than give these a look.

Here's what you do...buy a few P99's and put different sights on different pistols for different applications. I did.:2gun:

If I remember corretly Earl's night sights are full metal with the tritium vials inserts,
where the mepro and trijicons are just like the OEM plastic sights with the tritium vials in them

Uncut you are probably correct but I also think that Trijicon makes Earl's sights...

you might be right about the vials.....
butI think it is not just the vials that matter on a nightsight.
At some point there was nightsights offered from Walther directly (2004/05 catalog I think)
DR Lunde did a write-up about the nightsights once (Mepro, Trijicon and Earls)... and I remeber him saying something about the Earl-sight being different bu I can't remeber for sure if it was here or the other Waltherforum.....
I wonder if the company that does "vial inserts" on the stock P7 sights would do it on the P99 sights too..... I have only heard good things about them and it is lots cheaper than most replaceable nightsights too...

Are NS difficult to install on a P99C? In other words, does the pistol need to go to to a gunsmith (like Kimber) or do I need a sight pusher (like Sig)?

No it's not hard
all you need is a "glock" wrench and some loctite for the front sight... and on the rear a small screwdriver.....

2nd edit for more info....
the Mepro nightsights use a different part # for the P99 and P99c
I have yet not found out what the difference in them is but if you look there is a difference in part#'s

I had the meps on my full size and then switched them to my compact. No big deal. I found that the paint just needed to be buffed or filed a little. I just ran the meps over some sandpaper and the slipped right into the groove. I would get another set in a heartbeat.
