Bought a Bushy 16 inch forgery and 10 USGI D&H mags about a year ago. First few times to the range I got failure to feed and failure to extract malfs. about 2-3 times every mag. I chalked that up to break-in blues (first 1000 rounds).

Rifle stated running better as time went on and the feed malfs. cleared up but not the extraction issues. I ordered an extra power extractor spring and insert which cleared those up instantly.Never have had another extraction issue to date.

Rifle ran perfect for several more months then began having feeding issues again.

It started off with the occasional 1st round of each 30 round mag. hanging up on the feed ramp and upper barrel hood. Started downloading to 28 rnds. which temp. fixed the issue. Started having feedramp hang-ups again, but now intermittently with now pattern of which round it would malf. I ordered an Extra power recoil spring and heavy car buffer which cleared up the problem temporarily.

Now I have an additional new malf. along with the feed malfs. For example: I'm on round 3 or 7 or 18, or whatever, and instead of 'boom' it goes 'click'. I tap, rack, and pull trigger and indeed it goes bang. I expect a live round to extract and to chamber a new round but I don't get a live round coming out at all. I just a new round going in. It's like the bolt forgot to grab the round from the mag. hence me pulling the trigger on air. I get these sometimes a half dozen times in a mag and it has done it with all my mags. sO now along with the infrequent feedramp jam I'm getting these no-feed malfs.

Any ideas?

It sounds like you have several issues going on. I would first get some different mags with Magpul GEN II followers. I would then change out your buffer spring. Your extractor also sounds like it is worn and can no longer grab the case.

A simple test is to lock the bolt back, insert a 30rd mag (fully loaded) and hit the bolt release. If it does NOT strip a round off the mag and fully lock the lugs, then your buffer spring is weak and need replacing.

Instead of throwing parts at it, contact Bushmaster for repair under warranty.

That is a good as well, but getting a quality mag (from a friend or buying one) and buying a $5 dollar spring and $5 for a new extractor really isn't going to break the bank. These parts will give you spares (that you should have on hand ANYWAY) and might save him from the horrible ordeal that is BM CS.

I tried a heavier action spring on my carbine, I found that I had a problem with I believe was bolt bounce which manifested itself as failures to reset the sear on both burst and semi. Several times each magazine I would have to slightly rotate the selector to reset it. I removed the stronger spring and the problem went away.

I tried the heavier spring because my M4 was having allot of issues with double feeds with H&K magazines. I eventually went with a DPMS extra heavy buffer and the problems with the H&Ks went away.
