Okay,

Ordering up some night sights. I can get the Glock factory sights, or the Trijicon.

Naturally, I am pretty much going to go with the Trijicon. However, what are the differences between the glock and triji's aside from price?

Also, can these be put on myself? I can have a armorer at the local dept. put these on, but i'd rather do it myself. Do the Glock sights require the front to be crimped? I know the Trijicon front has a hex screw, so loc tite is a must.

Anyways, thanks in advance.

They're not hard to install at all.

You can either buy a Glock Rear Sight tool or use a Vice, a hammer and a wooden dowel, to drift the rear sight out.

You're probably going to NEED a front sight tool. Some folks have bought a traditional nut driver, but the wall of the driver is typically to thick to fit flush with the slide to thread in the screw. Some, have taken a dremel and shaved down the walls of the head on the nut driver, so that it can fit flush against the underneath of the slide.

About $25, you can have the tools. Its not hard, but its easier with the proper tools. If you only plan on doing this once, I'd take it to either the armorer you mentioned, or pay a gunshop 20-30 bucks to do it.

Or you can buy Ameriglos & do it yourself, because the front sight is screwed in (versus staked in) They'll give you the necessary tools with your order.

I have to say go with the armor from the local dept route. Sure you can put them on yourself but are you sure you are going to do it right? Now most likely in a shooting you couldn't screw the sights up enough to be off target (due to the short range factor in rw shootings) but what if?

As for the diffrence between Meps, Trij and GlockNS are IMHO not worth worrying about. My duty gun has Trijicons but my off duty gun has Meps. Except for them being on diffrent guns I don't really notice a diffrence.

Good luck
Dennis P.

Glock NS/Trijicon/Meprolight night sights are also screwed in, only ones that are staked(to my knowledge), are the stock sights.

Where can one get the tools for the front sight? With just the hex nut driver, won't the front sight move as you tighten it? Don't you need something to keep it in place while you are tightening the screw?

I had mine installed by a gunsmith and had the front sight screw came loose a few times so I decided to get my own tools and learn to fix the front sight myself!

The trick is to add a drop of red locktite to the threads of the front sight screw, then let the installed front sight cure for 24 hours before use.

Stay clear of the screw when oiling your Glock. Oil will soften the locktite.

I just installed a second set of Trijicons last night, these on my 19. My only tools ? Wooden dowel rod and hammer. Grease that rear dovetail generously, as well as the rear sight bearing surfaces. This is the trick when installing new.

Front site was easy. Clean well (degrease), dry, red loctite and use your finger tip to turn screw in. Then, final torque with needle nose and let dry. It won't need torqued much at all so what little you can get with needle nosed pliars is enough.

This worked great on my 27 so should work great on the 19.

Thanks for the tip Sarge.

I drifted the rear sight out already. Just gotta wait for the sights to arrive. Should be able to get the front sight in, no problem.

Thanks

Lonewolf has a tool for this.

You said, in part, "However, what are the differences between the glock and triji's aside from price?"

We have both, and as stated, they're both excellent.

The Trijicons have a narrower front blade (see attached) and "sharper markers, day and night.

The Meps are a tad brighter, but less "sharp" in the dark.

Both are perfectly functional for their purpose.

Be sure to degrease that front sight, that portion of the slide, and your fingers, prior to installation. I used a Q-tip & denatured alcohol, but you DON'T want to get that stuff anywhere but where you need it (it could attack the sight's white rings & the gun's frame finish).

Make sure your final adjustment to straightening & setting the front sight is a tightening motion.

Give it a day to cure, and that should be it!

Thanks guys! I will look it up and will remember to do the degreasing. I think the reason why it loosens is that I might have gotten some solvent into it as I was cleaning the ports of my slide after firing with the original barrel (19C). I have been using a regular barrel but have tested some rounds with the ported one.

Everyone's been helpful, as usual. :hugs:
