View Full Version : Found it!
First time I seen this page. My 3gen. O.D. G-17 is my housegun and go to gun. Its about 6 months old now and has been flawless in function. It one smooth shooter and fits my hand perfect. Allso my favorite 9mm . I have ccw with it in a Don Hume leather IWB And it carrys better than my 1911 boat anchor. I,m fine with a nine and have no problem with its accuracy or its very good stopping power. Most of all in the G17 package is its stone dead reliability!
Welcome! I have a OD 17 too. That's one good looking gun!

Agreed that the G17 makes a good carry and house gun.I carry mine all day everyday. At night, it is my bed side pistol or always close by.
Absolutely! A great gun to have nearby when you're awakened in the middle of the night by an unfamiliar sound. Recently we had a nasty reminder of how ugly things can come right to your own front door.
I wasn't quite asleep when I suddenly heard a loud knock and my indoor dog went crazy. As I retrieved my GLOCK 17 w/M6 my middle daughter came running into the room obviously scared. I went to the door and in a mello voice asked "Who's there?" An unfamiliar voice stated "Kevin, let me in..."
Sure buddy! I don't think so. I responed to Kevin that I would not open the door. He then stated something about being jumped by some bad guys and he needed to use the phone, blah blah blah. By then my oldest daughter had already called 911 and the cavalry was on their way. I told Kevin to stay on my porch and that I would protect him if the BG's came back. Eventually the black & whites arrived en masse (including the PD Sgt. that lives behind me) and the whole thing turned into a bunch of drunk kids from another part of the O.C.
The moral of the story is that all throughout the incident everything worked out well. The kids did what they are trained to do and I felt SECURE with my G17 stoked with eighteen Speer 124gr.GDHP's in my hand. It's a very low crime area...but you never know, right?

Glad you and your family are safe and alright, Hugo R.Smart thinking and handling of a potential intruder.
Seems you have made your G17 your "goto" pistol in an emergency.
Hugo- Glad everything went according to plan and it sounds like your kids are as smart as their dad! Way to go!
Your story reminds me...I've been meaning to move my 870 up from the basement to my bedroom to keep my 22 company! :)
Since this last post I've purchased another 870, this one with extended magazine (7 rds.) and a small safe which has been bolted down in my closet.
However, the G17 continues to be the go to gun in case of that loud bump in the night.
Question: How many of you guys use the G17 as a primary HD gun and how many of you have lights on the guns?
Or....Do you prefer bigger and badder? I have another safe in a different part of the house in which lays a Para P14 Limited with a SF X200, stoked with Winchester 230gr. SXT.
Or....Handgun won't do...870 or other shotty for HD/SD and 00 buck is the only way to go?
p.s. thanx for the earlier comments...nothing exciting since:thumbsup:
I have a M3 light for my 22. It's pretty bright when the house is dark at night. I check the batteries every night. Bought a couple extra batteries since you never know when they're going to die.

G17 is my goto pistol at night.I can attach a Glock Light to it should the need arise, though I'm in the market for a Surefire X200A.I have three 33rd. mags waiting to be deployed should need be.
I also keep my P229 and USP45 around at night just in case. All three pistols are fitted with nightsights.
Good idea on the lights and the G18 mags. I keep one in my handgun safe and one in my everyday go to bag. Call it paranoia or whatever, it's nice to know I have all that extra ammo just in case!!!

Paranoia? No way!
Now if I don't have any of my guns(heaven forbid), I would be EXTREMELY paranoid.
Update...The 870 is locked in a rack in my bedroom closet. Took forever to get it right but it's bolted to the studs and isn't going anywhere without serious demo work.
My newest G17 with Insight Tech M6 is locked in a AMSEC handgun safe bolted to my dresser.
In another part of the house is my Para P14 Limited with SF X200 also locked away in another handgun safe.
Next project is to get a lockable rack installed in my car for my Remy 7615P. My carry G26 or duty G17 usually is enough...but for long trips out of town I like to take a little something extra. I find the Remy the perfect truck/trunk rifle...not to military looking yet mean as a rattle snake when used properly.
IMHO, the 870 or a 7615P backed by a G17/26 are the best combo for any SHTF situation I might encounter at home or on the road.
