View Full Version : Suppressing a Glock 19...

Just a few questions:
1. Who makes the best suppressor?
2. Who makes the best extended barrels?
3. Am I correct in thinking that 147gr loads would be the best for this purpose (most quiet)over 124gr and 115gr?
4. Anyone know how long the BATFE paperwork and signoff take?
(nevermind, saw above in the FAQ that it is about 3 months....)
5. Any other forum with significant amount of info on this topic?
Thanks.

1. AAC (evolution-9), SWR (Trident9, Shadow9 or GS9-K3), or Gemtech (Trinity).
2. KKM, Jarvis, Barsto. You will have to use an aftermarket barrel for a Glock 19.
3. Yes, you must use 147 grain ammo or you will hear a sonic "crack" that defeats the purpose of using a suppressor.
4. Anywhere from three weeks to 120 days.
5. Silencertests.com has a lot of info on this topic as well, but it's basically what I have already told you here.
I use a SWR Trident9 or an AAC evolution-9 on a Glock 17, which I feel is a better suppressor host than my Glock 19 due to the fact that I can use a cut-down factory Glock 17L barrel, which ensures proper cycling every time. Sometimes drop-in aftermarket barrels have a "break-in" period where reliability is less than 100%.
Sounds like my G17 will be the one then.
i am considering getting a 9mm can. i have a g26 and a g19. i would go with a g17 so i could use a g34 or a g17long barrel. i have heard great things about aac and gemtech, i would pick one of those.

makes me wish i had a bazillion bucks.
How long are you seeing from BATF cashing the $200 check to arrival of the approval?
Does the approval come to the transferee or the transferor?

It usually takes anywhere from forty-sixty days. Sometimes it takes 30 days, and sometimes it takes 120 days. It all depends on who the examiner is.
The approval (signed form four with tax stamp) is sent to the transferor.
Thanks. It makes sense that they cash the check first, and process after, but I rather hoped the check cashing came just before approval.:)

Doesn't work like that, sorry. The only thing you know when they cash the check is that they definitely received your paperwork. I usually write down that date on a post-it note, stick it on my computer, and vow not to call to check on the status of the transfer for sixty days. Mine usually take longer than that, however. I am used to it, though.

I disagree with #3. I rarely shoot subsonic ammo out of my .22 and 9mm can and they all work plenty well enough with standard velocity. And I never shoot subsonic out of my .223 or .308.
If someone can't stand the sonic crack of a .308 or .223, they should stick with .22LR because thats about as effective a .308 is, traveling 850FPS....

I have shot 124 grain Gecco through my MK9K and was not impressed. It's quieter than shooting unsuppressed, but it's very disappointing compared to what you get with 147 grain ammo. Since the original poster admittedly knows little about suppressors, I was simply trying to explain how to make the suppressed handgun as quiet as possible. And that requires using subsonic 9mm ammo. 22lr is different than 9mm. I also use standard velocity .22 ammo with my Outback with pleasing results.
I never said anything about .223 or .308, but I agree with your assessment of that issue. I just ordered an SWR Omega-30 and plan on using it with 175 grain ammo, which I know will produce a sonic crack. I have no illusions there.

Gotcha. I'm actually pleasantly surprized how well my TPRS works with full power loads on the .308. The .223 is pretty good too, still dont need earplugs, but the .308 can while being a lot larger of course is scarry quiet.

I own a SWR Trident 9 on a Glock 19 and am amazingly impressed and happy with it.

Not sure about best, but SWR recommended KKM Precision to me.

The difference between super and sub sonic loads will be great in terms of quiet. Supersonic loads sound like a gunshot, subsonic ones are much, much quieter overall. 147gr is generally subsonic.

My last one took 2 weeks, although it was a corporate transfer.

www.subguns.com
www.silencertests.com (although the owner works with/for AAC, so beware of possible bias).
