I have a new Vector AK47, and there is what looks like a 1/4" gash or scratch on the inside top of the barrel at
the front end of the gas tube and behind the front sight. I'm being told that this is a gas vent hole. Is this correct?
Something doesn't sound right. How far down the barrel do you see it?
The gas port should be in the same area as the gas block.
Don't know what type of gun it is,but the gas block is @ 4" behind
the FSB(front sight base).
The gas port in all my guns is just "a hole". No gash at all.
Might you be seeing the cromed barrel "flaking" at the port hole?

I have this AK http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=233
It's approximately 5" from the tip of the barrel and about 4" behind the front sight base. It's under the gas tube so it must be the gas port. It's tough for me to tell, but it most likely is a hole. It looks like a scratch (or large gash) to a newbie like me.
Take off you receiver cover, remove your return spring, pull
your bolt carrier to the rear and remove. Flip up the gas
tube lock on the right side of you sight block, then remove
your gas tube. Find some thin wire,or some thread, and try
to get it in your gas port. Then look down your tube.
I think your just seeing some flaking in the bore.
It should not affect anything if you clean her after shooting,
if it's just flaking.
IF it's a new gun,you might want to talk to them if it is flaking.
You might get a new one from them.
