I have a second generation G17 that has never been cleaned. I have run a patch down the barrel because it got a lot of ash, wet drywall and insulation in it during a Arson Investigation a few years ago.

This is my primary work gun. I use a 1911 during case follow up work. The 1911 rust up daily in my line of work. The Glock is maintenance free other than a drop of oil every now and again.

I sell ammo so there is plenty on hand. I have a family farm that that I can shoot at day and night. I might just shoot a mag full here and there or a hundred rounds at a time. I can not even guess how many rounds I have put through this gun.I made a resolution in 2003 or 2004 to take it down a clean it good. That never happened.

I have went this far, should I just leave it alone. Should I brake down and clean it. It does not really look bad other than powder residue on the ramp. Maybe I will do it this winter. ;)

I would keep it dirty and count the rounds until you get a failure. but since you use it for work, I would clean it. why risk life or death when it ony takes about 10 min to clean.

I had a qualification shoot last Saturday. I had decided that I would clean it afterwards but forgot to take my kit with me to work.

I shot Winchester Value pack ammo and forgot how dirty it is compared to my normal ammo. I shoot about 90 % Ranger or Fed Tac since UPS keeps me in good supply of dented boxes.;)

Do you know how to disassemble the slide and clean out the firing pin channel? A lot of debris can build up in there and cause problems. A dirty feed ram can cause jams, as can gunk behind the extractor. I'd oil it monthly, clean it quarterly, and deep clean it annually. FWIW.

hotpig, are you pulling our leg? You have got to be kidding. You would bet your life to a dirty gun? I myself shot one of my G17's a couple of thousand rounds without a cleaning just to see if it could do it. Of course.....this was NOT a duty gun.

Comon' buddy. You know better than this. Are you an arson investigator? If you are, you've picked the best gun available for your type of job. A G17 is tough as nails and doesn't mind dirt, mud, sand, ash etc. etc.

But that's the outside. Inside, you should keep her nice a clean with just a little bit of lube. Like any fine lady.;)

p.s. it really does...just take minutes

I got my Glock not because I love it, because it does not require being cleaned lubed and rocked to sleep like many other guns. I stopped carrying the 1911 to work because it had to be cleaned and lubed on every shift due to rust.

Judging from last weekend if I shot target ammo on a regular basis a good cleaning would be in order.

An immaculately cleaned glock(inside and out)is a beautiful thing.:)

I got bored on my 48 hour shift yesterday and cleaned my Glock. I was surprised that it was not real bad after years of neglect. I forgot oil so I got some rear axel grease and used it. Smells funny but works.

+1. My GLOCK's get tons of TLC!:hearts:

They may not require all of it, but everytime I pull the trigger it goes bang so if they're going to take care of me...I'll take care of them.:)

I have a Harley to clean and polish. My Glocks are trouble free. I will clean them if they get dropped in the mud, but it will be in the dishwasher, then a drop or two of Mobil 1 and that's all they need and get. I have other firearms if I want to clean everytime I shoot, I just don't want to.

Even if you dont love the Glock, please use some common sense and clean the pistol more often, besides reading this just made your website seem , well , dirty.

Depends on which web site you were looking at.;)I did break down and clean it since this post. More than likely it will be cleaned again in the next few thousand rounds.

I clean and lube my Glock 17's after every firing session. I know it isn't needed but I'm old fashioned when it comes to maintenance.
