View Full Version : Tenifer and Hardchrome
ANY OF YOU GLOCK OWNERS KNOW IF:
1. A Glock could be hardchromed with the tenifer beneath?
2. Any custom shop EVER blast away the tenifer TOTALLY, before applying the hardchrome?
4. It is required before hardchrome, then how much should be removed?

Nothin' to it! Shops have been doing it for years.....
All they do is 'blast the black phosphate coating off the slide and then HC it. Most will do the small frame x-pins for free is asked. Absolutly no reason to destry the tennifer treatment on the slide as it provides much of the integral strength it has by design.
So how much does it automatically blast off the phosphate finish? Until it is steel looking?

I have 2 Walthers that had tennifer coatings. I had them hard chromed. My SW99 had a melonite finish - similiar to tennifer. It is hard chromed too.
Tennifer stays on the metal, down to the molecular level. I believe it is still below the hard chrome...

You've stolen Kate Beckinsale's dual killer, from Underworld!! NICE MAN!!
Yes, Melonite is actually identical to tenifer, it is a trademark issue so they call it melonite in US.
So you said you got them tenifered! How were they before you did that? Parkerized or stainless?
