What do you all think? What ammo would you carry? I have a Sig. 229 now but am looking at a G31 for a full sized gun. I'm also thinking about another G35 with a 357 bbl. Have any of you used one against a large animal? Ie. cougar, bear, moose? Thanks ST

Massad Ayoob reported in an issue of Combat Handguns magazine that a police officer killed a black bear with a 357 Sig. I think the load was the 125 grain Speer Gold Dot. I have read over and over that the 357 Sig works well on pit bulls.

Posters here have reported on shooting cows with 357. The round appears to explode in the head.

I feel well protected with my G32 on my side when I'm in the woods. I carry the Speer GD 125gr.

I have a G35 with a 357 Sig tube in it. I don't know how much that extra almost inch adds to it, but man! It smokes! I just got all my reloadin' stuff for that cal. so's now the fun begins. I wouldn't feel under gunned in the woods where I'm at. The largest things here in my neck of the woods are Black bears and an occassional cougar. Black bears are a threat hwever, my Mother's nieghbor had one fall through her roof into the kitchen while she was cooking breakfast a few years ago. She got out, and showed up in a panic shock at my folks' hut, but her dog got killed. And her breafast was gone too. 16 rnds. of 357 sig enough to stop a black bear? It's quite speculative, but I still woulndn't feel undergunned.
