Well, I finally got one. $365.00 OTD. I'll go to the range near my office on Monday and see how she shoots. I think the only thing I want to change is the grips. I bought an extra McCormack mag. Any good advice for an experienced shooter that is new to 1911s?
Just have fun and shoot straight. I have one and did some light mod's to it and it is very reliable. Even without the mod's it was very reliable.

Brace yourself for the 1911 "Bug"

I bought mine back in January for $319 OTD and first thing I did to it was change the grips. After approx. 700 rounds, it has been 100% reliable and a pleasure to shoot so I have decided not to mess with something that works and will be leaving it as is!!
Congrats on your purchase! Let us know how she shoots!

Thanks, Dave. What grips did you put on?
rich52us- I just bought a set of plain jane plastic "GI" grips for $10 at a gun show. It gives it a more authentic look. I wasn't crazy about the look of the "slick" grips that came on it, although I do hear good things about them.
Enjoy your new .45!

Good pick up Dave. There was nothing like that at the gun show here this weekend. Is that WW I authentic? I'd like to keep it WW I with the straight main spring housing.
Congrats my friend. Stay safe and shoot straight:thumbsup:

I just caught it...I am toast!

I also have put GI plastic grips on my RIA Government sized pistol. This pistol has been problem free since since day 1. It is at least as reliable as the Ithica issued me in Vietnam and more accurate. WHile it is no tack driver it has reasonable accuracy with every .45 load I have put through it including Wolf. Yes, I am a happy camper.

Recently a friend was selling out of a gun shop business and I bought a RIA 1911 A1. I didn't pay a lot for it, and it was unfired, previously owned,in an original box.
I took it home and after disassembling, oiling and reassembled, could not get the hiccup out of racking the slide. It would bind up and not go back into battery. Re did the take apart and re assemble for the next 2 days.I lost count how many times it would still bind up. I beleive that the barrel has a clearance problem, now,it is a trusted gunsmith's possesion and he will try to un hiccup my RIA.
I beleive it would fire, but would not attempt that until the slide works like glass, and goes forward and backward like it's supposed to.
The finish is Military, and it had smmoth grips and full checkerd grips. Came with 2 Mags, 8 rounders. No tool marks and looked like a Colt,or Sprinfield when apart. Trigger worked good and will be better when it returns. I have having the barrel either ramped, or replaced, and or polished for hollowpoints to shoot. More later after the return.

Well, I put 400 rds through it and it should be about broken in. It occaisionally fails to return to battery in the middle of a mag, but only by a hairs width. This has happened less often the more I have shot it. A push on the slide and the round would fire. However, on the last round of about half of the mags, the slide and barrel stay back about 1/4". It will not budge when I try to push it forward. The barrel and slide seem to be in battery when this occurs. I have to rack the slide and remove the round. I have also noticed some peening on the bottom left side of the barrel link. It's on it's way back to RI, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or comments. Thanks.
