View Full Version : Help...Should my G17 be this tight?

I have about a dozen Glocks but this is my first G19. The date on the fired cartridge case is 8/22/06, so it's really new. With all of my other Glocks, when the barrel fully in battery, there is a tiny bit of side to side play and a considerable amount of up and down play in the barrels hood. The hood/slide fit on my new G19 has absolutely no play in any direction. Front to back, side to side, up and down, zero...zip...nada. his G19 locks up like my G20 with a hand fit Bar-Sto barrel. I can press downward on the hood with all my might and there is still no movement whatsoever. This G19 also has a angled bevel at the front of the barrel hood and more pronounced ridges along the center of the finger grooves. I have a 6 month old G17 and a 7 year old G23; neither has any of these differences/features. Is any of this normal?
Thanks,
Joe

I'm going to the range today...I'll let you know. I did bit of research so I know about the redesign of the barrel hood. I'm still curious about the overly tight lockup and redesigned finger grooves.
Sounds like a good late 1980's or early 1990-91 glock.
The glocks back then were tight, consistenly made and had few complaints aside from the one parts recall.
I won't buy a new glock with all the play you described.
You got a REAL good one if it shoots as good as my old 2nd generation guns.
I have YET to find a glock that shoots better than my ultra-tight 2nd generations glocks made in germany.
I have a hunch you won't ever find as nice a glock again...

This is a brand new G19 serial KHN***. I have a gen 2 G17, G20 and G22. None are anywhere near this tight. To this point my tightest Glock was a Gen 3 G20, though it is not quite as accurate as my gen 2 G20 (which is very loose). I'm not exagerating, the barrel hood on my new G19 has zero play in any direction. I guess that this is not the norm for current production gen 3's.

BTW glock obviously made some changes. My new G23 is tight(however so is my 5 year old G19) has the new finger grooves, serial plate is cleanly recessed and visable from inside the dustcover. Also glock added the bevel at the front of the hood on the G19s a long time ago. Hope this helped.

It shoots exactly the same as my Dad's well worn early Gen 2 G19, nothing spectacular but more than accurate enough for it's intended purpose. At just over 1600 rounds this week (I'm on vacation so I'm shooting all day, every day) it has gone bang every time I pulled the trigger. I guess I was expecting either greater accuracy or less reliability considering the tighter lock-up.
I made a trip to the dealer that I purchased the gun from and looked at a few other new G19's. They were all tighter than I normallly expect from a Glock but not nearly as tight as the one I bought.
I guess time will tell.

Thanks a bunch. I also noticed that the serial number plate is installed 180 degrees from what I'm seeing on my other Glocks(backwards? Reversed?)
