View Full Version : Magazine rusting...
I have a 8 round k9 mag as my backup for a CW9...I carry it in a kydex mag holder, and I have noticed that it will rust if I dont wipe it, and the mag holder, off daily. Granted, its summer, and I have worn them both with exposure to my skin, but the metal looks like stainless. Any advice for not having to dremel polish my mag once every couple weeks?
J_Curd,
I've had good luck with putting a coating of Renaissance Wax on all my mags and my guns. Any hard auto wax, not polish, or a hard wood floor wax will do.
Here's some info on Renaissance Wax:

Well it is not stainless if it is rusting. Mine are obviously galvinized. You have probably dremmeled all of the galvinization off by now. You probably stratched the galvinization in one spot and after that happens it is all down hill from there. This happened to my Walther P99 mags, although (suprisingly) it has not happened to my Kahr mags yet. You could try painting your mags, that is what I would do. Spray paint them black and then grab some automotive touch up paint for when you scratch the paint in the future.

Kahr Factory Mags are Stainless Steel. However stainless steel is not rust proof, it is rust resistant.
You see, my dear, all certified mail is registered, but registered mail is not necessarily certified.
I buy nothing but Kahr factory mags...but I see your points. stainLESS not stainPROOF.
I have cleaned my mag and applied a solid coat of chapstick (lame, I know) before putting in my mag holder...no rust since then. Works great!
Chapstick is versatile!!!
