View Full Version : Are there any stainless steel hammers out there ?
I left my 1911Sc in my truck at work a few days ago, and it got kind of damp out side. The next morning I noticed the sides of my hammer rusting. Ofcourse, I oiled it and got it off, but still, I have a SS slide, why not a hammer too ?

Stainless is not really "stainless", it "stain less".
Nothing can resist lack of proper care forever.
I keep it cleaned and oiled. Just never really expected the hammer, of all things, to rust.

Yes, there are stainless steel hammers on the market.
That is a fitted part, no guarantee you can take one out of the box, put it in, and have the same trigger pull... or any trigger pull at all.

I think Ill just keep oiling this one, or send it off sometime and have it coated.
the side's of the hammer are in contact with other steelwhen its going threw its working arc.you;d have to oil it after each shot or at the very least after every use.
Try a Scotchbrite fine or X fine pad. Oil as needed.
My Commander has a Nowlin SS hammer, available from Brownells. It'll take fitting to get it right.
Better than gun oil for fighting rust:http://www.x-autoproducts.com/images/corrosionx.gif http://www.pistolgear.com/prodimages/eezox_7oz_1lg.jpg
