It costs as much as a Kimber because it's the Springfield equivalent, with all the little extras that are normally custom, and a very nice (if it's the model i think of) hard finish.

After two return trips to Springfield I like mine. It always ran 100% with anything I fired down it, but from the get go it fired hard left and the ambi safety would walk out on the weak side. It shot really nice tight groups, but they were around 2 inches left of the point of aim for whoever shot it. I tapped the rear sight over to the point that it became a snagging hazzard and it still shot to the left.
After the first trip back it still fired to the left and the grip safety would not activate after my grip was released. The thumb safety was tightened, but overly tight and it peened a hole in the finish on the weak side. Needless to say it was very aggravating. So I sent it back for the second time.
After about a month the pistol was returned. The mark from the grip safety was still there, but the gun shot point of aim with nice groups and the grip safety worked.
Honestly if I ever purchase a 1911 in that price range again I am going to save a few more hundred up and purchase a semi-custom.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but it's basically a "Loaded" pistol with a rail, fancy paint job, and ugly pachmyer grips. It doesn't really stand out as being a good value or anything.
For the money I'd rather have a Warrior. Swap a part or two, send it to Birdsong for their 2-tone Black/Green-T and you'll have something that's at least a little unique.

I love mine. It's put together better than my other loaded. The night sights are nice too.

this makes me want to get one, either the marine operator two tone, or the sa lw two tone. anyone selling one?
does it come with factory nite sites?
You might also want to consider the TRP operator if you like front strap checkering and match barrel and bushing plus a magwell. You also won't get the ugly wrap around grip. I think all operator come with night sights.

Im hearing that Colt is "falling off" with there 1911 series these days. I know a few people who own them and needless to say that they have there pistols either back in the shop or sent back to Colt for service work all the time. A good friend of the family was out shooting with us one day and needless to say another "die hard colt fan" turned to the Kimber side and will never look back. Another one converted, wise choice on his behalf.

Needless to say, my new Colts have been flawless. The Colts being put out right now are of excellent quality. When guys who work with 1911's for a living say that the 1911's Colt has been turning out lately are some of the best they have ever made, that's pretty high praise. Colt has definitely NOT been "falling off". Heck, if any maker has been "falling off" it's Kimber.....needless to say.

I dream of ordering one with the "US" grips from the GI model.

You can find the "US" grips pretty cheap. It's usually the first thing GI owners dump.
