View Full Version : Slide Wear G17
This is a picture of my G17 slide. What is causing this to happen? Is it a cause for concern? What can I do to prevent further wear?
BTW this is my first post so don't flame me too much. :wavey:

 I don't own a G-17; mine are G-21's; but that is a common wear point. (I've got two shiny spots on each of my slides right there.) It appears to me that you may have shaved a piece of metal. Guess we're, both, going to have to wait until somebody with a G-17 checks in.
(It'll be OK; Glock would never do that to ya!) :)

Slide peening. It presents no problem and will wear so far and stop of it's own accord. You can search for "slide peening" and probably find more than you want to know.

 Don't look like slide peening to me. Looks more like a piece of metal has cracked off.

Slide peening. Normal and self limiting.
My 17 did the same thing.
All Glocks do it to some degree. No cause for alarm and as metioned it is self-limiting!
Thanks for the info everyone! I'll keep my eye on the slide to see if it gets worse.

More prone to 2 pin Glocks than 3 pin from what I've heard, no worries though.

The slide peening examples below is a composite from PTOOMA's "Complete Glock Reference Guide and from Custom Glock Racing:

Agreed looks like peening. Every Glock will experience peeing as the gun is broken in.

My secong generation did that. I stoned them smooth and they never came back. That is why glock redesigned the locking block.
That is the result of a Glock design flaw. I often wonder why it took they so long to correct. It is not a functional problem, but a cosmetic one. It will cut the tops of your mags if you don't stone it down.
I cured that issue with an old G34 I had. I cut the top of the locking block down with a surface grinder. My two pin G34 never did peen the slide. No, it did not cause problems elsewhere. I put 50,000+ rounds through it before I sold it and bought a G35.
