View Full Version : School me about VALMET!
I'm looking to get an AK type rifle and have come across this excellent cond VALMET .223 with wood stock at my local shop.
I don't know much about this kind of gun, what to look for, fair price, ..etc. The owner asking $1,300, 4 mags, scope month, sling. The stock has a crack on the plastic butt plate at the bottom screw.
What I worry about is parts, and if the gun is worthy?, or should I just go with Arsenal, or maybe Yugo AK instead.
Thanks!

Valmets are well built.

I would say that is a fair price.

Definitely 76, it has the front sight with that (dead)night sight flip up.
Thanks

My M76 is still going strong after all these years. Consider the lack of availability, $1300 for a Valmet in good condition and four mags isn't a bad deal. The problem is that if you were to want more mags...good luck!
Supposedly you can use Galil mags but that's not 100%. I have 20 Galil mags and I tried them all in my Valmet and got three mags that I would consider using it in the Valmet. Most of the times they don't feed worth a damn and many times the rounds don't make it off the mags and up the feed ramp and then the bullets themselves are driven back into the casings.
