I notice that Hogue has rubber grips for the Walther P5.
They look pretty good, anyone tried 'em?
I know when I replaced the factory grips on my Sig P239 with rubber Hogues I noticed (for me) an immediate improvement, wonder if these are worth taking a look at?
Thanks,

Hogue makes some good stuff. I guess it depends upon what condition your P5 is in. If it is a police surplus and in fair condition I guess the Hogues would look and serve you well. I have a NIB P5 and put Nill wood grips on it and would not consider anything else.
I agree with Jake......
The Hogues are sure worth every penny compared to the original plastic grips.... oh and they are cheap if I remember right....
** edit.... $22 and change... here is a link

If however you do have a nice P5... I would for sure look at the Nill woodgrips..... though those are not cheap by any means.... and unless you find a set on one of the forums... you either have to special order them through MacTec or Nill directly.....
I will attach a pic of mine... and if you interested I can give you info on Mactac or Nill...... I just ordered some Nill's for my P7 and was advised that shipping (due to bulk order) will take about 4-6 weeks since the grips come from Germany

Thanks for the response.. My P5 is indeed a German surplus pistol I recently purchased from SOG. I think the condition of the P5 would be more in the "good", catagory, or if you want to be kind possibly "very good".
The pistol shoots and functions perfectly.. It is very accurate at self defense range, and being an old fart I couldn't hit squat with anything further out anyway.
The only obvious defects are cosmetic, and related to holster wear on the slide. The bore is excellent and for the money I paid for it I'm well pleased with the P5.

I'm NOT a collector, just a plinker, so the price and condition of my surplus P5 works just fine for me.
The Nill grips are beautiful.. If I had a NIB P5 I would certainly try and pick up a set of those... But to be honest, I'm a retired old redneck, poorer than a church mouse, and just lucky to be allowed into the halls of P5 ownership at all!
Again thanks for the input, I'll probably order a set of the Hogues tomorrow.
Best Wishes,

this is indeep a VG condition P5 for a surplus gun (from what else I have seen as of late coming out of SOG as far as the P5's are concerned)
FWIW I still want a "shooter" P5.. not that I don't shoot the one I have, just not as much as I want to
I too would get the Hogues.... and don't forget to get you some recoilsprings for the P5/P38......
they both use the same springs.. and just the other day there was a post on the P38 forum reffering to the roundcount that is "OK" for the P38 without having to worry about the aluminum frame......

I bought a new set of (just in case) recoil springs from Wolff last year when I bought my very nice surplus P1 from Impactgun. I didn't realize at the time that the P5 uses the very same recoil springs so I've already got a new set stashed away..
My P1 & P5 are "shooters" and in my doteage I don't shoot zillions of rounds each year any more. I think I'll just leave the originals on both pistols alone until they burp for some reason.
I appreciate the info and the link.
Best Wishes,

P.S. On second thought after reading the thread you linked me to I think I'll just replace both the P1 and P5 recoil springs.. New springs are very inexpensive anyway..
