View Full Version : G30 After Market Bbls
Any handloaders among the BDC that have gone to an after market barrel in the 30. If so, what type did you opt for, and have you noticed any differance in your brass since you did. Did you go for a fitted one or drop in version?

I have a KKM barrel for my Glock 30. It dropped right in without any filing. Shoots perfect. Dead on accurate. The KKM barrel has much more case support and a tighter chamber than the factory barrel. The brass shot from the KKM barrel is not expanded as much and does not ever have a buldge. IMHO, the two best aftermarket barrels for glocks are Bar-sto and KKM. I run a Storm Lake barrel in my Glock 23 and it has not had one problem. Barrel shopping seems to depend on one's budget and what you are willing to pay to rebarrel the gun.

Thanks for the input, I'm tossing around the thought of either a KKM or a Jarvis. I have a Jarvis in my G20 that is a fine piece of work, but, the KKM would me a less expensive alternative, especially if it'll just drop in.

The only aftermarket barrel I've ever tried in a Glock was a 357Sig Jarvis in a G22.I have no complaints and would recommend them to anyone wanting one.Mine was a drop in.I reloaded for it,but didn't have a factory Glock 357Sig barrel to compare brass to.The brass looked fine coming out of it and I was shooting max loads.I've reloaded for 9mm,40,10mm,and 45ACP Glocks with factory barrels and never had a buldge.I never loaded the 9's or 45's hot,but alot of the 40's and 10's was at max.The only buldge I've ever had with a Glock was using Double Tap 230GD's in a G21.

Do you have newer glocks. I went to Academy Sports and looked at the newer Glock 22 barrel and it could possible have more support than my older models glocks. I could not take the guns apart so I am not 100% sure. My factory barrel on the glock 23 buldged the case with winchester white box ammo. I finally got tired of that and got an aftermarket barrel. All is ok now. I have tons of range brass pickups fired from glock .40 caliber that is buldged, so I assumed that most glocks .40 caliber were still buldging the brass.
FWIK, Most reloaders use a Lee die in the sizing stage on their dillons presses on the .40 and .45 ammo. The Lee die sizes down low enough to get the buldge out. With a well supported aftermarket barrel you do not get a buldge so there is no need for the Lee die unless you resize brass fired in a glock factory barrel that buldges the case.

The only Glock I have now is a new G21 and that's the one I got buldges in using Double Tap ammo.

I like to think, a picture is worth a Thousand Words! These are pictures of my Glock 30 factory barrel and the KKM aftermarket barrel. You can clearly see there is much more support in the six o'clock position where the brass is gettting the buldge. The close up pictures using a digital camera allows one to see the barrel's case support better than the normal eye view. You don't need to be a engineer to see the difference! The KKM barrel also has a tighter chamber, dropped right in, feeds and shoots perfect!

In my opinion, if you shoot lead, reloads, hot/high pressure ammo, then an aftermarket barrel will give a higher saftey margin, especially at the 6'oclock position of the chamber. Of course nothing can avoid a "double charge" or "bullet setback" but the reloader.
