View Full Version : Custom Made Tungsten Guide Rod?
Hi Glock Fans,
I'm looking for someone who makes custom tungsten guide rods for Glocks. I need a guide rod like the T.H.E. guide rod but that will fit a Wolff recoil spring.

THE rods will fit a wolff spring.
Thanks Matt but I need more info. Mell
Pretty sure that "Steve Adair" on www.sigforum.com makes them for Glocks as well, but I MAY BE WrONG... Do a search on the SigForum for his name or for SS guide rods.

I didn't have any luck with a tungsten rod and wolff springs in either my G21 or G35. I shot both in production and the G35 in limited as well.
I cut eight loops off of a stock recoil assembly and that's working nicely for my 134 PF G35.
Did you try the IMSI tungsten rods? Which ones? Which Springs? What Power Factor?
I've bee thinking about the captured tungsten or stainless using 13 lb IMSI springs.
Edited because I spell poorly.

I tried a tungsten guide rod in my 34 for production & when I weighed it per uspsa rules, it was too heavy. You are allowed two ounces over listed factory weight, I believe. I did find I can use a stainless one, though, without being overweight. It may be a moot point, they may not weigh your gun but ......... rules are rules. Of course, I guess you can offset the weight by removing material from the inside of the slide but I'm not going that far, at least not yet, anyway. ;) I do use the tungsten rod in my limited gun. I have had no trouble with it at all. It seems to help me with recoil ever so slightly. YMMV of course. MLM

Was that an extended rod? I seem to recall the short rod only weighed 1.1 ounces.
I didn't weight the pistol - maybe I should have because of the way the rule is written.

Yeah, it is an extended rod, now that you mention it. It's the only one I've got & I forgot there was any other kind. hahahah. MLM
Hi Guys,
Okay I have an Open G22 and I want to try a Wolff recoil spring. I have the ISMI 13lb. spring in it now, the THE guide rod is made for it. Dave Sevigny is using a tungsten guide rod and a Wolff spring. I just want to find someone who will make me a guide rod?

Mell,
My brother who has a metal fab shop says manufacturing something from tungsten is not an easy task. It takes very specialized equipment & also, knowing which tungsten alloy the rods are made of is another concern. Pure tungsten is very brittle & not the best product for guide rods. Finding someone to make a custom guide rod could involve hundreds of dollars, if not thousands. MLM
Hi MLM,
Thanks for the info but a tungsten guide rod may cost $100.00 but not $1000.00.

Mell,
Have you found someone that will make you a custom guide rod, especially for $100? Please send me their info. The reason I asked my brother about it is I was interested in having one built. To gear up for it, for him, the cost would have been way higher than $100. Of course, no one would pay that much. Obviously custom means custom, not just some assembly line run of the mill guide rod someone named "custom". MLM

Tungsten does not wear very well and in my opinion is not worth the money.
