View Full Version : CW9 and night sights
I'm confused.
I been reading that the CW9 / CW40 cannot be fitted for night sights? Why is this? It stated on one review...
"the CW9 cannot be retrofitted with night sights, because the slide does not have a front dovetail cut"
My Glock 27 doesn't have a dovetail on the front.
Can someone please explain.
Thanks

I am just as confused. My Walther also has a screw in front sight. Is this not how the CW9 front sight is? Sig mills the 232 sight right onto the slide, that is "impossible" to replace.

The night sights for Kahr's require a front site dovetail. The front sights on the CW9, CW40 and E9(Economy version of the K9) are pinned, so the slides do not have a front dovetail. At this time no one (that I am aware of) makes a front night sight for a Kahr that does not require a front dovetail.
It is not impossible to add night sights to one of the Kahrs mentioned above. It requires that a gunsmith mill in a correct front dovetail to fit the sights you want. However it is generally excepted that if you want nights you should purchase a P9, P40 or K9. You also get 2 mags with the P9, P40 and K9 and a polygonal barrel. FYI the E9 has a polygonal barrel.
Some that have access to reasonably priced gunsmiths, may disagree, but most of us feel that by the time, you have a gunsmith dovetail the slide and buy an extra mag, you may have been better off with a P9, P40 or K9.
YMMV

The only night sights available for the Kahrs have the dovetail. The pins on the glock sights are not cylindrical, they are notched to prevent them from twisting. The front blade on the CW9 has two pins which apparently keeps it from twisting around on top of the slide. Why Kahr can't jam a tritium vial into that plastic front blade is kind of beyond me.
Someone out there find me some tritium vials and I'll make them myself. I'll take care of the rest of you guys too.
Traveler is correct unless, like me you get a killer deal on the CW9. I got the CW9 with 2 mags for $300 bought night sights for $60, and had a gunsmith mill a dovetail for $65. So for $425 i got a CW9 with night sights and 2 mags. Of course if you can't afford a P9 but can afford a CW9 and then buid it piece by piece then you have the same thing. And I know what you guys are thinking, put a Glock front sight on the CW, won't work. The CW has 2 holes for the front sight instead of 1 like the Glock.
If you CW owner's want to have a dovetail milled, take my advice and contact Bruce Warren at bcarmory.com . He was the one that did mine. There were others that i contacted but some wouldn't even talk about it and some would do it in 6-9 months. Bruce did mine in about 10 days from the time I contacted him, shipped the slide and it was returned to me.
