I have a couple questions about the ppk. What is the difference between a PP, PPK, And the PPK/S? Also are the new guns coming from S&W any good? I handled a buddies ppk clone and liked it but while looking at them online got confused by the different models. I did a search but was still confused. Thanks
The PP is the original, full size Walther of the series. "Full size" being subjective.
The PPK is the reduced size with a shorter slide and shorter butt than the PP. Size was reduced about 1/2" off the slide and the same off the butt. It was designed for the plain clothes officer.
With the passage of the 1968 gun bill the PPK was too small to make enough points to import into the US. Walther took the short slide from the PPK and put it on the frame of the PP, thus creating the PPK/s, which made the PPK/s just big enough to get enough import points.
Have had very limited dealings with the S&W PPK. The ones I have shot (20-30 different ones) it has only been a couple of mags each. They tended to function OK.
