If you notice, 1) he's got his fingers on the trigger(s) before he's on target & 2) As he draws, he flags the camera man with his muzzle. IMO this guy is a danger to himself and others.

Was that even in the US? I though 18 were only avalible to LE agencies here

Yup. But since every county sheriff in every forgotten corner of Lousiana or Arkansas or wherever else this guy was, can order as many fully automatic, imported, totally-banned-for-civilians-forever small arms his budget and constituents will allow... the question becomes "how many G18s are floating around in the trunks of off-duty LE types?"

And from my limited exposure to SWAT guys in a few different states, the answer is "lots". I've shot all kinds of interesting things like Steyr SMGs and MP5SDs that officers just kept in the back of their personal cars, not even bothering to sign them out of the armory. And that doesn't even mention their M16s and Benelli Entry Models kept back home in the trailer park, or the flashbangs and breaching charges in their trunks.

It's funny how people think that by making certain guns "Govt/LE only" really makes any difference in terms of who has access to what. Maybe it does in NYC, but not in rural America. There, it just means that if you want access to modern MGs, at least on a recreational basis, and your buddy from high school or your brother in law is a deputy sheriff, you're basically "in". Same goes for automatic knives and the other "Govt/LE only" stuff out there in commercial circulation.

It's all about who you know, and Mr. G18-Dualies in the video just knows the right guy. Or is the right guy.

I spent 2 1/2 years on my departments SWAT team. During that time, I had a fully auto colt commando cable-locked in the trunk of my car 24/7. Most teams let their members keep department weapons with them for call-outs. It was pretty sweet going to civilian ranges and letting some full auto fly, it always got everyone's attention. Sadly, I had to give the toys up when I left the team.

On a side note, I personally don't see the real world application for Glock 18's, other than for just burning rounds at the range. Sure I'd like to have one, but I'd be hard pressed to use full auto on the street. No control and burning through an entire mag in 5 seconds?? I'll stick to my patrol rifle if I have a choice.

What Zebra said When I was on my dept.s entry team we did not take toys home period they were in the armory and we had to check them out as needed. We did have certain wepons that were assigned to us, we had to have been trained in the use of that firearm ie sniper rifles. Gas guns and grenades ect. while we were cross trained on everything only two team members were designated snipers only one was a designated grenader ect.
I prefered entry so i was assigned an MP5 or a Rem 870 I actually prefered the 870 over the MP5
I agree the Glock 18 is a pretty useless firearm for real world application. It runs to fast to be accurate at any range.

I wonder if you could slow the cyclic rate of fire. Seems like full auto PISTOLS would be a lot more useful if the rate of fire was reduced to about 1/3 of what you see in the video.

I actually had a chance to shoot a Glock 18 at a GSSF match years ago. I ran several mags through it as well as the full 33rounds. It was a blast but beyond that it didn't take a huge effort to keep the rounds on target at roughly 15 yards. Basically a combat shotgun in a small package. It was not difficult to manage the bursts.

I would own one but my state doesn't allow class III weapons made after May 1st, 1986

Maybe someday the NFA rules will be overturned. I wish.

My thoughts exactly. Everyone is quick to bash accuracy of G18s, but I have shot them, and it isnt that out of control.

Not saying that you are going to put rounds through the same hole, but you will eat up a man sized target anywhere 25 yards and in.

I don't think those are 18's

its a helluva lot easier to order the switch for a regular glock than take all the time and paperwork of acquiring a real g18.

It might be easier to order the switch, but it is a felony to install it on your Glock. Not trying to start a flame war about the NFA laws being unconstitutional and we shouldn't have to abide by them, but it isn't worth prison time to have a full auto Glock. If you want full auto do it the legal way. Unfortunately there are no transferable G18's or Glock conversion devices available that I am aware of so you would have to look for something else.

Certain govt agencies still train with the 18 for clandestine personnel. It can be concealed carry with a big surprise with regards to return fire. In ambush situations it can clearly have a psychological effect that can allow time for evasion from kidnapping or assasination attempts. Of course, it's usefulness is case-by-case. Outside of that, it's the cool factor. I've fired the 18 and I have to say I enjoyed both seconds of it.

Cheers
