Ok, I had never heard of this special model, and I have a Kahr PM9 and a P9 for years. Both work very well, never had an issue with either.
Now, since this forum is full of PM9 issues I myself have even been thinking of converting back to a MK9. Well, I just happen to be perusing my local outdoors store and there it is, an MK9 two tone for $339, new. Wow! I think.
There apparently is no such thing as a good deal, I have now learned for the millionth time. I did not realize that there is such a thing as a non-stainless Kahr 9mm! (P or MK series that is)
So, I was going to sell my PM9 after I proved the Mk9, but now I am not sure what to do. Opinions?

Unless you are in a very humid climate, have tendency to prespire extensively or keep your gun in very harsh environment - the issue of stainless vs. carbon steel should not even be considered.
Even with those harsh and humid conditions, properly finished non-stainless gun should fare quite well.
The price you were quoted for the Mk9 Box is very attractive and only because the slide is not made of stainless steel shouldn't dissuade you from buying.
You will also find a large group of experts in firearm technology that will swear that the carbon steel gun is superior to stainless for many reasons, one being much better retention of lubricant on mating surfaces and much less galling.
Good luck!!!!

I don't understand what the problem is???
Keep it lubricated and wipe off the frame with a silicone cloth and you should be fine!!
Thr MK9 is a great pistol.
I've had an MK9 Elite 98 for years!!

I guess there is no problem, I was just expecting it to be stainless and it wasn't.
I live in the very humid south here, and not that I perspire a lot, but I have had some sweat get in and rust the barrel lug/pin on my PM9. I am cleaning it down more often now so it isn't really an issue, but that pin is not stainless though the barrel and slide are.
So, I guess I will go ahead and sell the PM9 and keep the MK9. I like the feel of the heavier pistol anyway. If I start having rust issues I can always have it hard chromed.

Or gun-koted...or even melonited. Something to consider is that stainless is not rust-free and the coatings/treatments you can get will provide far superior corrosion resistance as compared to stainless. Also, you cannot melonite stainless...and non-stainless will have better adherence with coatings (at least in the case of gun-kote)...
Don't get me wrong...I like stainless. I just don't think it's the end all be all in corrosion resistance and today there are so many spectacular options to rust-proof your guns. Like I said: it's something to consider.
One more thing: Remember Eezox. It is an unbelievably effective corrosion preventative. You can use it as a lube, but personally I like FP-10 for that.

I would be happy. I was sad they stopped making the BOX and that it was only ever offered on the MK pistols. I have had zero rust problems on my Walther P99 and that has a carbon steel slide.
Yeah I never even noticed those on the kahr site, but saw a few listed on gunsamerica etc, wondering why so cheap. That's not a problem really, just a little more maintenance intensive. Apparently kahrs are that way anyways, so probably not a huge deal.
COngrats. You'll probably love it.

The Walther P99 has the tennifer treatment.

Yea, I knew that. What I didn't know until right now is that Kahr's Black OXide treatment was really not any good at preventing rust.
I seem to recall a thread a while back where there were several reports of MK9 Boxes having stainless slides (with the black finish over them). Apparently Kahr had shortage on the carbon steel slides and was putting stainless ones on to fill the orders.
You may double check the actual gun (unless you've already have) to see if it is stamped stainless...
Here's my BOX:

I got a MK9-BOX one time that the LOWER stainless has a surface rust spot on it around the trigger guard. It was new from the factory and directly shipped to my distributor. Hmmmmm. So I agree even stainless will rust but Kahr quality control should have caught it.

Do you know where to look for the stamping? On the case or on the slide? I'll check mine.

If it is there, it is on the side of the Slide and it is very easy to see. In other words it is not hidden.

Okay, I got the Samuel Jackson/Pulp Fiction reference. But I still don't get this:

"I have had zero rust problems on my Walther P99 and that has a carbon steel slide"
Made corrosive concerned box owners feel better. Then you come along and shatter the illusion. Probably for the best, as a false sense of security would have compromised any extra preventative measures they might otherwise have taken; but still...
