I have a gray parkerized finish on my polish underfolder AK. Is a parkerized finish supposed to be the final finish on an AK or is it to be considered more of a first coat primer type ? Do I need to put another coating on the gun?

It is usually an under treatment. GunKote, Duracoat, and Alumihyde all are good final coat finishes that hold up to solvents.

In their "mother countries", AK's were first parkerized/blued ( metal treatment ) and then a baked-on enamel finish was applied. I've had good results with baked-on Krylon ( nice and cheap ) ..... just make sure the surface is completely degreased. If you're going to bang it around a lot, I wouldn't put a "nice" expensive coat of paint on it. Alternately, you could powder coat it with Duracoat, but you'd have to shell out some $$$ for that also.

I have used both duracoat and Alumihyde 2. Neither are powder coat and are easy to use...both can be baked on if desired but it is not required. Both are not expensive at about $12 a spray can which will do a couple of rifles.

No....but no need to worry about the overspray either.
