View Full Version : MAK 90 -Chinese Norinco 56-S1 Underfolder
I have a stock MAK 90. I saw an earlier post with a photo of a Chinese Norinco 56-S1 Underfolder. I'm not sure the exact term but I cut and pasted this term. I got it from the "sticky" at the start of the Kalashnikov Klub. There is a photo of the rifle I'd like to have.
What I would like to do is convert my stock MAK 90 to "an underfolder".
I like the authentic look in the photo of this Chinese Norinco 56-S1 Underfolder.
Is there a parts kit that I can order to do this conversion?
Is it legal to do such a conversion?
Thanks.

You need to make it 922r comliant by adding 6 US parts (hammer, Trigger, Sear, gas piston, muzzle device and US made PG would be my pick)
Then you need to change out the rear trunion to a Underfolder Trunion, drill your receiver and install a UF stock.
A buttload of work, IMO
I would clone one using a yugo UF. Remove the gas block and replace with a non-grenade sighted one and have someone re-mark the receiver.

I'm just guessing, but I think you're referring to my rifle.

I say sell the MAK-90 and buy a Chinese underfolder. Doing the conversion is too much work in my opinion. If you want it to look like mine I don't think Yugo will work, I believe the handguards are longer than standard AK. And the money you would have in buying and modifying the Yugo would almost pay for a Chinese underfolder, they can be had in the $900 range now. Just my opinion.
SP3worker,
Your rifle is the type I'm looking for.
Could you post some more info?
Make, costs, etc.?
You happy with it?
I've always liked these, I've just never gotten one.
Thanks.

It's a Norinco 56-S1. They are made with all Chinese parts. They stopped importing them in 1989, so they are a little more pricy than the newer AK's. I think they may be the only blued AK ever imported. If you search long enough you can probably find one for $800-$850, but $900-$1000 is usually the norm. The mag is a Russian slabside, they usually go for about $40. The Chinese AK's are my favorite, I've never had any problems with any of my Chinese guns. I say go for it!
