View Full Version : Non-Ruger rings? glockatlanta 10-03-2006, 11:43 Who makes the best non-factory rings to fit Rugers? WIG19 10-03-2006, 12:45 You looking for just something to duplicate the factory ring, or something else, like QD levers.... and for which gun? There's a selection to peruse here. (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/catsearch.aspx?c=1874&p=4805) Warne, Millett, Leupold are all good stuff - having only had limited numbers of Ruger long-guns I can't speak to problems with their rings (Ruger's) simply 'cause I've never had any problems. :patriot: glockatlanta 10-03-2006, 16:48 Wig19, I couldn't get your link to work...was it to Brownells? I don't have any problems with Ruger rings either; I wish I could find some! I have a #1 and a Redhawk that came to me without any and factory rings are so expensive I was wondering about an alternative... Thanks for the reply. Anyway, try this link to MidwayUSA (http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/browse?TabID=10&Categoryid=9205&categorystring=657***698***8582***). Hopefully it puts you into some Ruger style rings by various folks. (Forget the 10/22 variety.) I've not scoped a Ruger handgun, but imagine the base system is the same as on all their CF rifles (?). Kind of a pain sometimes checking out something new via online sources; I'm kinda spoiled 'cause I have a superb brick & mortar gunshop I can go to, and they move alot of stuff. If you're still curious I'm goin' up there tomorrow and can check out what's available and what really works from some good guys that sell & mount alot of scopes on all types of guns, including TC's, Redhawks, you name it. :patriot: noway 10-04-2006, 07:45 {I've not scoped a Ruger handgun, but imagine the base system is the same as on all their CF rifles (?)} I question the rings sources for handguns. Ruger on their RH/SBH-hunter guns have a weird based that's non-standard. Warne makes ruger rifle rings but I don't recall any for handguns. btw: I have three ruger handguns scope and using the rings supplied I've had noproblems other than problems created by myself. e.g 1> MK11 my base came loose FIT, I reclean the threads and used blue loctite 2> SBH-Hunter after about 30 rounds my groups started climbing and was no longer a group. FIX my front ring screw was found to be loose or loosening. I grabbed the biggest flatblade screw driver and tighten the hell out of the two rings and re-zero and going only a 1yr plus my zero is still the same. The factory rings that ruger provides are nice. My only complaint would be the coloring of the halves aren't the same thru all platforms and on my Redhawk their slight discoloring between the 2 rings. I didn't buy the gun to win a beauty contest so I'm not worried about it ;) I do wish ruger would offer a flat-matte black rings as an alternative for the handguns. WIG19 10-04-2006, 09:55 http://www.millettsights.com/online/pages/prod_index.php Scroll down; Millett certainly appears to offer 'Hawk-specific rings that are same as that specified for the M77 bolt gun. However, quality rings are never cheap. Also appears they offer them in normal finish, as they separately list 'nickel'. Good luck! I'll still check what's up at the shop tomorrow. :patriot: glockatlanta 10-04-2006, 20:20 Wig19 & noway, Thanks for the info. I made time to go to the indoor range this evening and I scoped out (har har) their selelction of Leupold rings. Very nice quality but also commensurately expensive--something like $65 for a set. I'm not in a great hurry for these, so I'll keep trolling for a set of used factory rings. If I haven't found any in a month or so, I'll call Ruger or, more likely, have the guy at the gunshop order some short Leupold's. Thanks again for your help. Mike Mike, I concur with you keeping looking. I think it's important you support your range, but you don't personally have to send their kids to college. ;) They can be found for less. BTW, I wouldn't discount calling Ruger right now. Simply tell them you bought the gun and it came without rings. Ya never know - they might just send you a set. Although they're likely to be the nickel variety, versus matte; I too happen to prefer dark scopes/mounts as a contrast to a stainless gun - elegant understatement. :patriot: WIG19 10-06-2006, 06:53 Originally posted by WIG19 [url]Good luck! I'll still check what's up at the shop tomorrow. :patriot: Well, was up at my favorite drug house yesterday, checking into things... They typically keep both Ruger and Leupold rings for Rugers of various flavors, including integrated extension situations. They're pretty fair on all their pricing, almost as good as online on many things (but you get to see, feel, touch, smell) and usually way lower than any of the big 'outfitter' chains. Still, bottom line is that decent rings are gonna cost $42-53, Ruger or otherwise. There is (was?) a cheaper Weaver version made which they haven't stocked for awhile simply because of the metal used and they won't sell 'em or mount 'em on a customer's gun. Note: I did see regular matte rings other than the typical nickel variety found on stainless guns, so what you're contemplating cosmetically is easily done. Sounds like this is one of those accessories where you just have to bite the bullet, but it shouldn't be $65. Best of luck. :patriot: glockatlanta 10-06-2006, 17:00 Wig, Thanks for the report! I may go to another shop this weekend to check their inventory. I'll probably end up with another rifle and no rings! I've got a burr under my saddle to get a M77 MkII Stainless .308. Mike vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
