Recoil? Nah. Less than a .40.
My pa-in-law was afraid of the .45 recoil... until he fired one. It's a pansy pop.
Recoil is a subjective thing. But, overall, I think most would agree that a .45 is a low pressure thump that pushes the gun back into the hand, whereas a 9 or 40 is more of a high pressure crack that flips the muzzle up. For me, the .40 is much worse recoil-wise than the .45.
I have smaller hands, too, and the G30 is a perfect fit. Never tried the G36. The G21... Forget about it. It fits great, until that big hump and the base of the grip.
I know you said GLOCK, but my USPf .45 fits great, too.

I didn't like the feel of the G 36 grip. Too angular. I also have small hands, and the G 30 fits fine, and the rounder grip seems to distribute the recoil better. I have no trouble concealing it in a Blade-Tech or Crossbreed IWB holster under a polo or t-shirt. I also have a G 21 mag and grip sleeve that increases the capacity to 13+1 if I'm not carrying it concealed. I considered the GAP round, but didn't think it was worth the loss in capacity and ammo availablity for the .09 of an inch in width. Just my $.02.
I started with a 36 for the same reasons. I now own a 21, 30, and 36. The 36 is easier to carry (if that's your main focus), but its larger brethren are much more comfortable to shoot for extended periods with my average sized hands. The larger grip, at least for me, spreads the recoil across a larger area of my hand and is more comfortable.
I have the 36 for daily carry. I shoot about 50-100 rounds a week through it at the range and it is very easy to shoot. Recoil is not bad, but it is still enough to remind you to hang on. After shooting a .454 with full power handloads, I wasn't sure if my 36 even went off....
Get the 36. I bought it as my first cause once I picked it up I knew that this was the one. It fit my hand perfectly. Although, I just paid for a used 2.5 gen G21. Should get it sometime next week.

I just bought a G36 and really like it. I feel it recoils less than the G27 that I used to have. If you have a chance to rent one give it a try.

I have a G36. My hands are a bit too small for it. Try before you buy.

I have a Glock 36 and really like it. Recoil should not be a problem for anyone that shoots a 40. To me they are about the same. I had to laugh when Thumbtack said compared to shooting the 454 he had to see if the gun even went off. Good point. Shoot a box of Cor Bon 360 grain Penetrators thru a 454 and you will really like that Glock 36.

I have small hands and like the 30 best of the three.

Yesterday I shot a friend's G36 for the first time. I had the same reaction the first time I shot the G30. WOW!! What a nice shootin .45!! Compared to my G23, there isn't much recoil to talk about. If I could put up with the round count, I would carry it all the time.
I have small hands as well and the G30 fit my hand well and is very comfortable as far as recoil and not to bad to conceal despite its being thicker than other glock models. I carry it IWB in a don hume holster no problem.

I have a 21 and a 30. The 21 is a real soft shooter, the 30 is easier to carry. Regards,
