I am looking at getting a 11.5 inch barrel for my AR. Do I just have to pay the $200 dollar tax stamp to make this legal? Also, post a picture of your SBR here!

Which one is more reliable? I have heard of the short uppers being plagued by gas system problems. Also do I need a new buffer or would my stock Colt 6920 buffer work? I am looking at the Colt 11.5" upper or the J&T Parts FN 11.5" upper. Most likely it will be the FN upper due to J&T being set up at Knob Creek next week and their upper is half the cost of a Colt upper. CaptToyota 10-06-2006, 22:23 You will find the 11.5" to be more reliable, due to the "dwell" time past the gas port. There is a few 10" systems out there that reportedly work well, but expect to pay premium for them. I run both a 11.5" Bushmaster heavy barrel purchased in 1990, and a DPMS 7.5" bought in Jan-1999. I prefer the A2 stock, and the rifle buffer is weighted to 7.0oz as I also swap a 9mm upper on also. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/capttoyota/AR11.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/capttoyota/AR7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/capttoyota/9mmAR2.jpg DeLandSkyjumper 10-14-2006, 19:43 Here ya go mend. I bought this upper from CMMG about 2 years ago. Only had one instance of a hick-up, cured by installing a Defender D ring, though some would not agree with this fix as it is really viewed as only a temp. cure. But hey, these things are for pleasure, it's not like we're using them to defend our lives on a daily basis. So far, the D ring has worked just fine. DeLandSkyjumper 10-14-2006, 19:49 Here's another SBR done up in 9mm, all Colt less the suppressor. The suppressor is a LRM M169. skorpio 10-20-2006, 15:54 I've got a buddy that has a DOE upper like your 7". That, and an 11" Colt. Thanks to him, I'm on my way to a SBR permit for my 9mm Rock River. So until then, quit teasing me with what I can't have, yet.. gunz213 10-20-2006, 19:45 Here is my Rock River/CMMG. It is a 7.3" barrel with a larue rail. I also have a 10.5" upper inbound to run with my supressor. These are old pics as I have added a tango down vfg and I also changed the flash supressor. 730 rounds downrange so far without any problems. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/gunz213/SBR/DSC04146.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/gunz213/SBR/DSC04157.jpg DriBak 10-27-2006, 17:11 gunz213, is that paracord on your grip? gunz213 10-28-2006, 06:25 Yes it is. I never did like the stock A2 grip so I ground down the finger grove and wraped 'er up. It works pretty good, but it might get replaced by a tango down. I can post some better pics is you'd like. Methinks your TAD was to a seamstress's shop possibly. JK. Seeing this did give me some ideas for a lower I just put together, though... Saw one on Brain Enos forum that had para cord on the forearm too.
