Well, here's a mini report for you. My surplus German P5 came from SOG a few weeks ago. I've only run approximately 5-7 mags. thru it, but so far I'm well pleased.
A couple of days ago after reading another thread on the Walther P5 I got the hots to shoot my pistol again so went out back and set up my target at 7'.
I don't mind being laughed at for shooting at such close range, but in defense I'm an old senior citizen, shaky hands and declining vision. I couldn't see the target & sights at the same time at 25' yards if I wanted to.
Also, I practice at self defense range with all of my firearms, all of the time.... I think 7' is a reasonable distance for self defense purposes.
I shot 8+1 at 7' standing, two hands. (Cheap wwwb ammo)
The first, da round, went almost center bullseye. The remaining 8 rds. impacted a bit lower and slightly right of center. I think with more practice my accuracy will improve.
All to say I'm well pleased with my surplus SOG pistol. It does have considerable holster wear on the slide, but that certainly has not impaired the accuracy or function of the old pistol.
I have a new set of Wolff springs (standard strength)coming, as well as a set of rubber Houge grips. Obviously my P5 is a "shooter", so don't foresee any NILL's in it's future.
The Walther P5 is exceedingly simple to dis/reassemble for cleaning too... That's a good thing...
I think Walther "did good" with the P5.
