View Full Version : Suppressor paperwork question...
I've decided to get a 9mm suppressor. I have a Kahr and BHP in 9mm but don't care to suppress them yet, this will be for a G19 or G26 - I haven't decided. My question is, do I have to buy the gun first? I'm wondering if the paperwork requires me to fill in the serial number of the gun. If not, I'd rather start the paper work and decide on the gun while I'm waiting for the paperwork to be approved.
Thanks.

Buy the Glock 19 and an AAC Evolution 9 silencer, the Glock 26 is going to severly limit your choices for a silencer that will cycle.
The High Power barrels are to small a diameter to thread and create a proper shoulder so some type of a custom extended barrel with thread adapter to bring the diameter larger would be needed to fit a std. silencer. Not familiar with the other gun.
A screw on silencer is not keyed to a particular firearm, so get the paperwork on the silencer going first.
If you put your city/state in your member profile it's easier to give advice as one of us might know of a good dealer in your area, we might even have your dream gun for sale. We can't even tell if silencers are legal where you live so we both could be wasting our time.
Suppressors are legal here. I will get the paperwork going. Why doesn't the 26 cycle well with a suppressor? The 26 is my first choice and I may buy it anyway even if it limits my choice in suppressors. I like the 19 but I have more need for the smaller 26. Thanks for your help.

Have you already purchased the suppressor you want through a C3 dealer in your area? There is no way to "start the paperwork" without having a tranferor (C3 Dealer); transferee (you); and manufacturer, model & serial # of the suppressor. All of this information must be on the Form 4.
No, I haven't purchased or even chosen a suppressor yet. I was under the impression you had to fill out the forms and wait three months just to get authorization to purchase one.
So I need to pick one out and pay for it and fill out the forms at that time? I really appreciate the help. I'll give my local gun shop a call. The suppressor will be middle of the road quality. I don't need the best (this is just another toy) but I'd prefer one that doesn't have the first round pop. I guess I need to get shopping.

The dealer you purchase the suppressor through should provide you with the Form 4 (2 copies), FBI fingerprint cards (2 copies) and a citizenship certification form (1 copy). You just need to attach your photos, get the CLEO in your area to sign the Form 4, get the fingerprints done and send the whole thing off to BATF (along with a check for $200). The wait is closer to 1 month now. I have my 4th suppressor in transfer right now.
