View Full Version : USP 45 Yes or No?
I am considering the USP45 full size. The reason is because I shoot the USP45 Compact so well. Will there be major differences between the two? I am looking at trading in a Glock 21 for it. I would like to hear some of the Pros and Cons if any about the the USP full size. Is this a soft shooting 45?
Thank you,
Greg

Yes! I absolutely love my USP45f. Most pieces take me at least several boxes of ammo to decide if I really like it or not, but one mag in I knew it was right. Seems a pretty soft shoot to me. My main ccw's are a G20 and HK USP45f (other than 1911's). The USPf is noticeably slimmer than a G20/21 in the slide and grip. The HK is a tad longer in the grip, but not enough to be a problem.
Here's a physical visual comparison

It is an HK. Does anything else need to be said?
Greg, I'm in the same boat. I have a USPc .45 that has sent all my Glocks to the showers (gun safe).
I almost bought a USPf .45, but I was told that, despite the cancelled military procurement, HK is proceeding with plans to bring the HK45 to the US market next year. I'm going to wait and see what happens with that; if they do, and the new gun is popular, prices on USPs will probably drop.
Or, I might like the new gun and get one of them.
Either way, I think I'm going to stay with the Compact size.
The full size will be softer shooting and more accurate. I would say go for it for sure!

USP .45 only got to shoot 3 rounds, but that is one fine pistol. I have never handled the Glocks in .45, but I would love to have the USP in .45.

What makes you say that? Especially the accuracy part...:headscratch:
Well, softer because it has more mass.More mass menas the bullets have a bigger backstop to push off from, therefore less percieved recoil.
More accurate because of a longer sight radius,that's the difference in accuracy.Go shoot a Mosin Nagant M38 carbine(20" barrel,I think),then shoot a Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifle(31" barrel).Longer sight radius,more accuracy...

Yeah, I got all of that. And while I'll buy the more mass = less recoil, to a degree, I have a USP Compact .45, and everybody who has shot it got the same first impression I did... "That's the softest-shooting .45 I've ever handled!"
IOW, felt recoil is subjective. Same deal, but more so, with "sight radius"; there are other factors in play. I haven't fired a USPf .45, but I've handled one; and the larger grip tells me even money I can shoot my compact more accurately.
To carry your long gun analogy a bit further; give me a Benelli Super 90 with ghost ring sights and 20" barrel (there's that longer sight radius again), and I'll be able to do okay with it. Give me my issue 870 with 14" barrel and simple bead sight (short sight radius, no sight picture to speak of), and I'll wear you out in a hurry; because the stock on my 870 is cut to fit me, and the issue Benelli stock is made for an orangutan.
My point here being, blanket statements about certain parameters don't always apply...
.
Thank you all for the input. I do have another thought to toss into this mix. What do you all think of that new Springfield XD45 when compared to the H&K full size 45? I am leaning toward the H&K at this time but again would like to hear thoughts on this.
Thank You Again,
Greg

Thank You Again,
Greg HK. It is a better built gun in my opinion. It may hold less ammo but I feel it is a better gun with a lot more options regarding triggers and being customized to the user.

The XD's just don't feel right to me, tried to like them but can't. Something about the grip and shape. Can't say I'm crazy about plastic rear slide rails either. How's that a good idea?
Based on these thoughts I will likely go with the H&K. How good are factory night sights? Reason I ask is because I like the stock sights on my Compact but recognize the functionality of the night sights. The stock ones do work very well on my Compact, they just don't glow in the dark.
Thanks,
Greg
Today I purchased a Springfield XD45 Tactical becuase it had a very comfortable grip.
I will still always keep my USP45C though.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.

Besides the longer site ratios, the full size has a longer bbl. That gives the round more velocity and thus better accuracy. Oh and I think I may need to revise my statement about recoil. I just picked up a USPc .45 SS and was surprised to find that the kicked less then my full-size! WTF is up with that?! I even did a closed eye test to see what they felt like and the USPc came out on top (not by very much) but softer then my full size and both being softer then my 1911 (with 20lb spring). It is the softest shooting .45 I have shot.

Oh, and shame on you! lol
I guess as long as you are happy with it!
You have to give the fullsize a try down the road
if ya get a chance. It is truly a awesome gun to
shoot. Hopefully you will not like it more than
that XD or you may have to pick one up! ;)
Shoot safe!
Go ahead get one if funds permit....they shoot great!

I own a USP 45F and love it. Soft shooting, accurate and reliable. All you can ask for in a handgun. Buy with confidence!
I have both fullsize and compact USP. My fullsize has seen nearly 30K down the tube! It by far, in my experience, is the most accurate 45ACP autoloader I have owned, so far. I have fired a Mk23, and well it was like shooting a lazer. Now, I have had a customized Colt GC in the past, and the only 1911 I regret selling/trading was Satin Nickel Commander I owned a long time ago!
I say buy and enjoy!

Greg, if the fullsize USP45 fits your hands, I'll be a betting man and say you'll love it.Though it is quite a bit bigger and bulkier than the USP Compact.
I own a USP 45 fullsize for about 2 years now.It is the only pistol in my collection that hasn't malfunction even once(knock on wood).Easy to shoot accurately. Its a smooth handlng and shooting pistol.
Couple of downsides. It is BIG as hell.So big I'm certain I can't draw and shoot faster with it than my G17.The long double action trigger makes it un-wieldy(if thats a word!) for me.Single action is no problem.I usually keep it as my night stand back-up to my G17.
Another downer is it's checkered front strap. Its rather uncomfortable during long shooting and lots of rounds.
Hope this helps.
I got Glock, 1911, Sigs and H&K's all in 45. While not for CCW the USP 45 is by far the best, IMHO. Didn't think so until I bought one. I believe.
You´ll get the USP .45 someday. We, the board members are going to make sure of it (since you have chosen the XD over the USP  ).
The recoil spring assembly with its two-sping-buffering-system ( ) may have something to do with the smoother recoil...
