SAR 1 question

I just put a SAR 1 on layaway. Is there any way to tell what year it was made by the serial # or something?

Yes. The year is part of the the SN - usually the last four digits.

Well Im guessing it would be the last 2 on mine because it is ending in 3703.

I did .I put it in my favorites already. thats where I did my research and how I decided to get the SAR 1 because all the other ones they had were eitehr overpriced or just crappy condition. all I could find out was that the ones manufactured between 2001 and 2004 are better quality than the earlier models and thats why I wanted to see how to tell when mine was made. my receipt says its a Romanian SAR-1 AK47 Custom ,serial # ***3703

Does the serial # on the receipt match what is stamped on the left side of the rifle's receiver just behind the lower handguard?

I have a 2003 SAR-1 and the serial # that is stamped on the receiver is "S1 XXXXX-2003."

Whatever is stamped on the rifle is the serial number regardless of what is on the receipt.

And my 2002 is marked S1-XXXXX-2002

To answer bugout it was 400.00.
To answer Dglockster the numbers on the rifle match but I honestly dont remember seeing a year in the sequence but then I didnt know about it when I looked at it . I will have to check when I go to pick it up next week, Its possible they left that last 4 digits off of the paperwork .

Oh yeah and it did start out with S1 as well ..

Thanks , I know what you mean. before I found the one im getting I was at my other favorite shop and almost picked up a WASR GP but the tooling marks and finish was horrible on it and He wanted 389.00 for it. Ive been wanting a decent AK for years and if I knew they were going to go up in value I would have got a few back when they were cheaper and better selection.

My 2002 sporting Polish laminated furniture. I've threaded the muzzle and added a muzzle nut and also refinished the metal in Norrell's flat black Molyresin.

And this is my 2003 SAR-1. I took a little different tack from scromer, but that's part of what makes an AKM such a good rifle. You can customize it to your personal preference and still have an excellent firearm.

The bayonet lug on my SAR-1 works just fine. You may want to check yours when you pick up the rifle.
