Is there a way to lock the bolt open on an AK 47? Might be a dumb question but I can't figure it out.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thanks. dglockster 10-14-2006, 21:40 The AK is not designed to lock the bolt open. I have heard there are some magazine followers that hold the bolt open after the last round. There is also the Blackjack Buffer's notched safety lever that replaces the safety lever that comes with the rifle. The lever does not automatically lock the bolt open but does so manually. I have one on my SAR-1 and use it at the ranges where bolts are required to be locked open. You can see the notched safety lever at http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=202. MSW 10-15-2006, 06:35 dglockster Thanks. That answers my question. I was at a range today and a person was able to lock their bolt open with the fire selector. I couldn't figure out how they were doing it. Thanks. EMT322636 10-17-2006, 12:41 my wasr-10 holds open when you pull the bolt back to a certain spot, but not after firing. Its very touchy though, lost a fingernail in it when i set it on a table just right and the bolt closed...ouch G31Steve 10-17-2006, 13:56 Yugo mags can do it after last round. But I really dont like this cause when you remove the empty mag the bolt slams shut its kind of annoying to me. My range requires the gun to have the bolt open without a mag in the gun so I use a popsicle stick to hold my bolt open. dissthis 10-17-2006, 17:53 I have heard of people using the old school cloths pens to hold the bolt open graveman 10-18-2006, 02:08 Originally posted by EMT322636 my wasr-10 holds open when you pull the bolt back to a certain spot, but not after firing. It could also catch on the hammer when cycling which is not a good thing, so keep it greasy. In the meantime, try to not chamber anymore fingers or nails. zzdroptop 10-19-2006, 21:42 You can easily notch the selector yourself...Ive done it...works great. http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/4788/p10100325aw.th.jpg (http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p10100325aw.jpg) Rusty Shackleford 10-20-2006, 06:53 I picked up a Yugo underfolder yeserday which, from the sound of what's been said here, is catching the bolt on the hammer. The bolt will stay open if I gently pull it to the right spot, and will unlock if I slingshot it. (no mags involved) Should I be concerned? It has yet to lock open while being shot, but the trigger has failed to reset a couple of times. Disappointing because I was really impressed with the light, smooth trigger pull. graveman 10-20-2006, 08:52 Originally posted by Rusty Shackleford I picked up a Yugo underfolder yeserday which, from the sound of what's been said here, is catching the bolt on the hammer. The semiauto AK does not have a hammer retarder or an auto sear. This will make the hammer ride high and catch on the bolt and / or the underside of the bolt carrier at times. After shooting a couple of mags, you'll see this spot starting to wear down on the hammer. You can accelerate the wear process if you wish ..... see www.gunsnet.net/linx310 on how to do this ( and a lot of other useful AK info ). To make things smoother in the fire control group ( FCG ) as a whole, douse it with your choice lubricant every now and then , esp after cleaning. I do it every time and it seems to work the creep out. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
