I have an older Walther PP. I just purchased it today so I dont know the history of the gun as this was its first firing.
Problem was the slide would pre-maturely lock back with bullets still in the magazine. It did this almost every magazine but would occasionally go thru a magazine without issue.
Any advice?

Try a different mag Make sure its a Walther factory not some off brand like promag junk.

Its a factory mag....
I took the gun apart and soaked it in mineral spirits and scrubbed it up a bit.
While I did that I also stretched the mag spring.
Then I put 50 trouble free rounds thru it.....not sure which fixed it but I have a spring kit coming from Wolff so I will swap atleast the mag and recoil spring out for new ones....that should fix it.

SPRINGS AND FRICTION A GUN WORST ENEMY Keep it clean and lubed. Change spring every so often and should work fine 98% of the time. Of course sometimes you might need to fix a broken part but normal is springs and lube. Even more important on little blowback guns.

Could be a round hitting the slide lock (look for some copper color there and try another brand).
