View Full Version : good online ammo prices?
I have ordered ammo online from several places for other calibers, but none of my usual sources seem to have either much selection or good prices in 357Sig. I live in Texas, and can get WWB at WalMart for practice. I need to get some premium self-defense ammo for my newly acquired model 31. Any recommendations for those of us without Police Discounts? Thanks.

:smoking: ....Who do you usually order on line from?
Now see HERE (http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=581899):snoopy:
Ammoman has 500 rounds of Speer GDHP in 357 SIG for $219-00, no extra charge for shipping.
Thanks, everyone. That's what I needed to know.
I'd been buying a lot of my ammo at www.natchezss.com They seem to have a good selection of premium ammo, but few really great prices in 357Sig (or maybe I'm still just getting used to 357Sig costing as much or sometimes more than 45ACP). Most of the websites I tried to google seemed to have have only a few brands of Sig. listed.
I have since found one bargain at Sportsman's Guide, which apparently got the close-out run of Triton ammo (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=293188). 100 rounds of either Triton's High-Velocity or Quik-Shok for just under $25! I still need to try some Federal 125gr and the various weights of Gold Dot. But I've heard enough good things about the Quik-Shok bullets that i decided to stock up on some while they're at such a good price. Especially since those may be the last ones made (hopefully, <i>somebody</i> will buy the rights and resume production. It seems like too good a design to just let it disappear...).

Glock, you need to also keep an eye on caliber corner here on GlockTalk and you could have saved yourself a possible problem! Alot of what Sportsman Guide is shipping out is not what you are thinking you are getting AT ALL. Your wish in the last paragraph has partially come true in that the patent and rights to the Quik Shok line was purchased, but it was bought by AMERICAN AMMO (amerc) also known as one of the worst manufacturers of ammo in the USA. Go search on Triton and read the threads in caliber corner. Ask most shooters and they will tell you that they would not let Amerc ammo anywhere near their guns EVER!
Also, shame on Sportsman's Guide for their blatent mis-representation of the ammo they are selling.
If you go to Amerc's site, they have the Quik Shok listed, but they only sell dealer direct because I don't think there is a distributor left that will carry their ammo!
Thanks for the warning, I definitely need to check further on that. Sportsman's Guide had the ammo represented as being the final run of Triton ammo, which would presumably have the same quality control as all other Triton ammo. I'm going to go read up in the Caliber Corner as soon as I get a chance, having possibly been fooled by the ad.
Is the American ammo actually dangerous to fire (as in Ka-Boom), or is it just unreliable? Is there any way to tell if the ammo I purchased was the old Triton ammo or the new American ammo?

Being from Texas as well, a problem with glock39 buying from Cheaper Than Dirt, is that in addition to the cost of the item, he will have to pay both sales tax and shipping.
It's usually less expensive to buy from an out-of-state supplier and not pay the additional sales tax.
Yeah, you do have to watch the sales tax, but for .25/round the tax and shipping were still a good deal.
BTW - I looked the ammo over and it has Triton brass (NOT Amerc brass) and does not seem to have any of the obvious quality control problems discussed above. Some of the copper plating on the bullets is a bit discolored (from age), some of them are shiny new. I'm going to check them one by one and very carefully before shooting any (hopefully this coming week), but it appears to be the old and good Triton ammo rather than the new and crappy Amerc ammo. I'll post further results after actually shooting some.

Agree with ammoman. I've spent some good $$ there and I have been very happy with the service.
