View Full Version : Changing fiber optic insert?
I've got a Warren tactical fiber optic front sight that I'd like to change from red to green. I can't figure out how to do it though. Do I cut the green rod to length, insert it and some way melt the ends to hold it in the sight? If so, what's the best way to do this?

I'm a nubee to it also. That's basicly what I did. I first heated/melted/shaped/sized the end of the rod to be viewed. Checked the fit/apperence in it's housing. then cut to length plus about a 1/16. Inserted, and melted the end to retain (muzzle end).
Or, we could just buy the ones with the pre-formed ends. Which I may try next ;)
Hope this helps

Thanks Bill, that's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure. I guess I'll give it a shot tonight and hope I don't mess it up too bad. It's good thing they gave me extra material.
Anybody else done this before?

WOW(word of warning) Don't let your lighter get too close to the rod
:wavey:
Yes, melt the size dot you want on your end and pull it in place to shape it while still warm. Trim the other end heat it also. A soldering iron or woodburner will do a much neater and safer job than trying to do it with a lighter.
You can get all the extra fiber Optic here.http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Flourescent.htm
I got the sight installed, I used a candle. I just moved the rod towards the flame until it softened. Seemed to work pretty good.
