View Full Version : replacement for HK P7M8 in USPSA events
I think I am hooked on Practical Shooters Association (PSA) events, but am serverely handicapped with only a 8-rd. magazine.
Other than going to a P7M13, is there any other HK that aims like the P7M8 ? Perhaps the USP 9 ?
If not an HK, how about another brand (e.g., Glock) that aims similarly ?
Here a clarification when I say "aims like the P7M8":
The P7M8 has a 110 degree grip angle gives the gun natural pointability. 110 degree grip angle makes the gun point just like you finger.
Any other HK in 9mm like this with a 10+ rd. capacity ?
Any other gun in 9mm ?

You are going to be hard pressed to find the replacement since the P7 Series are squeeze cockers and to my knowledge unless you want to buy the P7M10 or P7M13 you will be had pressed to find a replacement.
BTW I own a P7M8 and P7M13 and they have been relegated to the safe.
What is the difference between the P series weapons?

I don't mind leaving the "squeeze cocker", it's the "natural" point-ability of the P7M8 that I am looking for.
There must be other semi-automatics like that ?

P7M8: 9mm 8-rd. single-stack
P7M13: 9mm 13-rd. double-stack
P7M10: .40 8-rd. single-stack

And this (scroll down to the P-Series):

P7M8: 9mm 8-rd. single-stack
P7M13: 9mm 13-rd. double-stack
P7M10: .40 8-rd. single-stack
FYI
P7M10 is .40 10rd double-stack
If you are thinking 9mm - maybe a Para P-19
LDA - if you want to shoot production.
Naturally could use a Glock 19 or 17 or 34
You got me a little bit confused there with the 110 degree grip angle thing for a minute... Most of the weapons we're used to talking about are referred to in the 11 degree (1911's) and 17 degree (Glock) grip angle. What we're talking about is just starting the measurment from the horizontal with one and the vertical with the other.
That said, I just went and laid out a P7M8 and a USP 40 Tactical one on top of the other, both ways, and the grip angle is VERY similar, and I mean extrememly close. Last time I checked, I thought the HK was an 11 degree angle. So I'm pretty sure that just about any of the mainstream guns will suit your needs for USPSA.
I myself am a 1911-style shooter (grip angle is what I'm referring to here) and use the Para Ordnance P16's for USPSA in limited and a STI 2011 frame .38 super for open. I've tried Glocks, and while they function great, they just don't work well with me. I'm one of those that just can't seem to point them right, and the 1911-style grip angle of 11 degrees suits me to a T.
Soooo, if I'm understanding you correctly, I think Glock is not what you want, but one of the wide body 1911 style's is. I'm not steering you away from HK's by any means, but there just aren't that many accessories for them that are competative in USPSA, even the jet funnel and white hi cap mags (18 in 9mm and 16 in .40 vs. 20-21 in .40 for a Para/STI and 22-23 in 9mm for Para/STI).
Hope this helps some...

Have you considered a Browning Hi-power? It's about a 13rd magazine, single action, sits low in the hand, points/aims well.
Anyone know the grip angle and bore-axis of a Taurus PT-92 ?
Will the KKM match-grade barrels for a Beretta 92 work reliably ?
