Teach me about night sites

I would like to possibly get some night sites on my G19 and G26.

I am trying to find what people are using on their carry and compition pistols.

What is the expected life of the night sites. Are any forever kinda like ACOGs?

Can I just put on a front site?

I have shot a G17 with night sites and the shots lined up quicker they were Meprolights (spelling correct?)

I am new to this part I have had tarus's and never thought about adding new sites.

I shot that G17 and thought about adding them to my G19 and G26 because I was fast on the draw with.

The ones on my brothers XD45 are odd but I do not know the brand. It might have been I was not use to the site picture and I had just shot 200 rounds through my G26.

You have a few options of quality night sights for a carry pistol

Meprolite Night Sights
Trijicon Night Sights
XS Big Dot Night Sights
Heinie Straight 8 Night sights

If you want a true carry and combat sight, get the XS Big Dot sight. It can be used efficiently from 0-25 yards realistically for the average shooter. They are extremely fast sight aquisition and i use them on all my carry guns. Taking into consideration the "most attacks occur 0-7 yards" these are pefect. These sights use a 2 dot system. one big dot in front and a line that you put the top of the dot on in the rear (it's much easier than it seems).


Meprolites are also good. They use the 3 dot system and are usually green in color. They are a bit slower of sight aquisition, but can be more accurate further out. (if i'm that far out, i'm running, not shooting)

Trijicon uses the same 3 dot system as meprolite, it would just be a matter of which ones you prefer.


Heinie makes night sights on the 2 dot system. I find their tritium inserts to be very small and hard to pick up at night. They do make great target sights though.


Somebody else can review the target sights. unless it's on a target gun only, get carry sights. Alot of guys even at competitions use these sights i have listed.
