View Full Version : Black and Black on Black
I finally got my ameriglo combat sights on my G17 and all I can say is WOW. I guess it doesn't matter what brand I went with but compared to the sight picture of a stock sight, plain black front and rear gives a clear, crisp sight picture.
The only annoying part was shooting PPC black targets. My sights tend to blend with the whole target. Even with the wider rear notch of the combat sights and thinner front sight, it is difficult to see the position of the front sight in relation to the rear sight.
Is there a trick to it?

No.
Congratulations on your G17, AmeriGlo sights, and superior eyes! I am envious! :freak:
Human eyes have basically two receptor cells, cones and rods. Cones are mostly tickled by color. Rods are mostly tickled by contrast.
Your eyes always employ both; but rods largely handle night vision.
While similar, our eyes are unique as finger prints...
On the targets you describe, you'll need to restore some contrast, if you want to resolve them, and shoot them effectively.
Try a sliver of red, green, or white tape on the front sight. You can apply a patch and trim it with an Exacto Knife. If you want to make this more or less permanent, clean the sight with alcohol, and apply automotive reflective tape. Avoid harsh cleaners on the sight blade, after making this modification.

I always like a contrasting front sight. If I have a pistol with plain sights I ussually paint the front bright orange with modle paint. This give a nice defined front sight, helps the eye to focus on the front and makes a flash style sight picture faster to aquire. Curently I'm running a Truglo TFO front with a stock USP rear blacked out. Byt far my favorite hangun sight set up.
