I installed the Lasermax on my Glock 19 and am having some problems. At first it seemed that the slide didn't want to go all the way forward. I pushed it a little and it went. I racked it a couple times and most of the time it went forward without a problem but still had to push it the rest of the way sometimes. I thought maybe I just needed to shoot it a few times to break it in. The first shot caused it to jam. After that, it seemed to fire without problems. I put about 20 rounds through it with no problems, then had one where the slide didn't go all the forward and i just had to give it a little push. The same thing happened after another 15 or 20. Is there a break-in period or is this a problem? The switch also seems a little sensitive. Unless it's in the very middle it comes on. Just a little movement will turn it on.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew:

No great words of wisdom, just the obvious stuff. Make sure the Lasermax in on the right notch on the barrel and isn't installed upside down. Mine takes a deliberate push on the slide lock to turn on and off. Try installing your stock spring instead of the Lasermax supplied one and see if that makes a difference.

I'd call Lasermax, they have technical support.

Hi!

You shouldn't be seeing any of this...

I have to ask, is this a brand new unit, in factory packaging? Or did you buy it from a previous owner? Do you have the OEM installation instructions?

A) This sounds like the recoil spring is worn out. If the unit is brand new, that's odd. Perhaps, you have the wrong spring... :headscratch:

At any rate, LM will mail you a replacement, probably at NC.

B) Like George says, recheck all the obvious stuff. Some of the fine points of primary installation are a bit subtle, but if I can do it, you can.

Is the fin on the battery cap properly oriented?

I'm wondering if you have the slide release spring seated properly...

Are the red markers on the on/off switch, facing back toward the shooter?

C) No. It should work trouble free, from the get-go. Once installed properly, you should be able to pop the guide rod assembly in and out, use the OEM guide rod, whatever, without problems.

If the unit is new, consider returning or exchanging it, if none of the suggestions remedy the problem. Places like MidwayUSA, Natchez, etc., will exchange or refund without hassle.

But do call LaserMax too!

Let us know what happens.

Andrew,

Based on what you're saying, my suggestion is to render the weapon safe, remove the slide and barrel and make certain that the side stop spring is seated properly. This spring should seat below flush with the grip frame. If it doesn't use the installation tool of a similar punch and push down on the forward end of the spring where it goes down into the grip frame. Push until it won't go down any farther. If it still isn't below the level of the fram bottom (down into the slot), tap the punch with a hammer until the spring is seated correctly.

Sometimes, the temptation is to seat the spring flush with the frame and this puts the unit out of proper allignment and causes this binding that you are experiencing. If this doesn't cure the problem, feel free to call me at (800)527-3703.

Best regards and safe shooting,

Ed Schmitt

Like I said in an earlier thread, too many of these type posts dry up and blow away when a qualified person asks the right questions, usually about initial installation. To me, that frankly smells.

Even if we do hear from Andrew again, my above-statement remains true.

At any rate, enjoy the simple pleasures. ;)

I seem to remember you making the statement that only an IDIOT couldn't figure out how to install a Lazermax system and that the lasermax system couldn't make the weapon unreliable.

I advised you that you were wrong and that we see a lot of these types of threads. So either the lasermax system is not full proof (as you like to think) or everyone that has a problem with installation is an idiot. Your call.

So your saying that you never called anyone stupid for not being able to install the lasermax??

English is probably the most precise language on the planet (next to maybe, mathematics). So far, you've trotted out "idiot" and "stupid", as words you "seem to remember" that I've "called" other people.

I don't think I've "called" anybody anything on this forum.

I have no clue what you drive, but I bet it has an "idiot light" or two on the dashboard. Does that make you an idiot? Does that statement equate to my calling you an idiot?

Still, I do think idiotic and stupid are possibilities we need to acknowledge. For example, it would be idiotic to try and force .357 Sig rounds through your 9mm; and it would be stupid to try and install a LaserMax backwards in a gun. But, to be fair, I'd have to learn the circumstances to decide for sure; maybe there was a pack of hungry wolves attacking, or whatever.

Anyway, show me the link to the original thread, where I called somebody an idiot or stupid.

P.S. Where's Andrew?

P.S. Where's Andrew?

I am going to love this! Here is the link where you said it: http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=572265

Here is what I said: If a Lasermax system is not properly installed, the weapon fails.

Here is what you said in response: Only an idiot would encounter this (and probably should not own a gun).

So not only are they an idiot, but shouldn't be allowed to even OWN the weapon! Real nice.

P.S. No idea who Andrew is (sorry).

I've read the thread, and within the context of the entire thread, I opined to you, C4, that only an idiot would encounter this...

Interestingly, the comment apparently offended no one but you. A moot point, since you hate the system anyway.

You're good at spin, though! I'll give you that! Air America could have used you. Maybe CNN still could? ;)

The thread does show your usual hijack of a topic, to hawk wares that you personally sell.

It also shows that the original poster, never rejoined the dialog. Perhaps he pursued it on the alternate forum you recommended.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to sell a 50-K kitchen! :wavey:

I am not offended by what you said in the least as I don't use the LM system. If other people want to allow you to call them "idiots" and that they shouldn't be allowed to own a gun, that is on them!

You said that you never called anyone an "idiot" for not being able to install the LM system and I caught you RED HANDED. Your worse than ANY Democrat I have ever seen. They at least admit when they did say something!

Now GROW A PAIR an man up for what you said!

Yup; sure enough, there it is--directed right at you, buddy. :eyelashes:

My replies to the individuals themselves have been help oriented.

"...probably should not..." equals "...shouldn't be allowed to..." in your vernacular? :headscratch:

Hell, I'll take it even a step further: Anybody that can't figure out how to work a Pez Dispenser is an idiot, and probably should not own a gun.

Now, C4, take that above-statement and run with it! For you that's a mother lode, baby! Boy, this must be the bestest day ever!

The simple fact remains that you said it, I called you on it, you denied it and I proved you wrong. ;)

Yes, I said it to YOU. I never said, for example, "Bob, you're an idiot!" Or, "Andrew, you're stupid!" That's why I didn't recall it, it was a generalization; which is a subtlety, somehow lost on you, C4. But I'll admit it is a fine line to walk... :agree:

Of significance to me, is the fact that YOU are STILL the only one complaining. So with that, I will apologize to you, C4, for my comments regarding the simplicity of the LaserMax system, with reference to individual intelligence. :sorry:

But like I said earlier in the other thread, you have a hard-on for LaserMax; and more often than not, when somebody inquires about it, you tell them it's crap and push Crimson Trace, which is a product that YOU peddle. And I find the whole thing cheesy. :shakehead:

My posts are usually intended to help, while you, on the other hand, lurk and snipe, which in and of itself, is quite revealing to anybody with a brain. Oops, I did it again!

I find it funny how you are back peddling now that you have been caught calling ANYONE that doesn't install the LM system properly and idiot. Nice.

I have no problem with the LM system. I personally don't care for the prouduct and believe it has some issues, but that is about it. My whole point is that I caught you calling ANYONE (not me) that has a problem the installation of the product an idiot. You also try and help people out with their LM installation, but you do that simply because you don't want the general public to realize that there might be an issue here (as we see these types of threads all the time).

Does LM pay you for your time? I hope you get some kind of kick back for all your help with the "idiots."

The original poster needs help with his Lasermax which does not seem to be working in his Glock. Ed From Lasermax has given him direction and made himself available to answer any additional questions by phone.

We'll call the rest "off topic"
