Why G-21 magazine (mine is 10 rounder) is so hard to load with out the reloading tool ,I can stuff only 8 round in it without the tool and most of the time I can only press in 9 rounds . The G-30 magazine is shorter but I can load up to 9 rounds without the tool.Just wondering .
The 10 round magazines are somewhat notorious for their difficulty to fully load. The trick is to stuff 10 rounds into 'em, and let them sit for a month or so, allowing the springs to take a set-or just get 13 round magazines!

Thank for the tip Jon, I haven't thought of that .
Vitually all the Glock 10 round magazines were a (explative deleated) to load. The reason was that during the Clintionista years, having a magazine that held more than 10 rounds would turn you into a wanton criminal. Consequently they made sure, under no circumstances could an 11th round fit in the Government (Congressionally and Presidentially) approved magazines by making it almost impossible to get 10 rounds in them. The 11th round never stood a chance.
There, I feel better and now you know! (smiley face goes here)

PS: Believe it or not, there is a kernel of truth in the above.
When I competed with my G21 at Shelton last August, I brought 3 13 round magazines and a couple of the 10 round magazines; basically I just intended to use the 10 rounders as "stripper" magazines, to top off the pistol with one in the chamber and 10 rounds in the magazine. I was just fine until I arrived at "Glock the Plates," where you really do need 4 full magazines, plus the ubiquitous stripper magazine. It was such a PITA loading the 10 rd magazine to 10 rds I said "screw it" and competed (in the heat where I employed the 10 round magazine) with 1 in the chamber and 9 in the magazine...talk about an incentive to aim carefully! After the match, I obtained a fourth 13 round magazine; my 10 rounders are used pretty much only for steel plate competitions (where only 6 rounds are loaded)or as stripper magazines, or to hold my A-Zoom practice cartridges for my dry-fire practice. They are indeed well built, but even with my technique of loading and letting 'em rest for a month they're still nowhere close to being as easy to load as the 13 rd mags. Incidentally, I download all of my Glock carry magazines by at least one round, on both my G21 and G17; it decompresses the spring, allowing not only for easier magazine insertion and locking, but also eases the pressure on the magazine release, decreasing the wear on the magazine tube niche and the magazine follower.

Sandy,
I have three hi-cap magazines and one AWB magazine. I've kept the AWB magazine loaded for over two years, and I just checked the spring tension now as a result of reading this thread.
It's much better now. I think I'll give it a little rest.

I'd like to test this out. I've always found myself unable to get past the 9th round in hand reloading my Glock 17 magazines. Yesterday, I loaded all 5 of my clintonian mags, and I will leave them until December 2nd. I will then unload them (either at the range into a target, or by hand in the comfort of my living room) and immediatley reload them by hand, making sure the HKS speedloader isn't anywhere nearby.

Anytime I used the 10 rounders, I would load up as many as possible. Then, I would then smack the bottom of the magazine on a hard surface. This would shift the rounds a little and make more room for the remaining rounds. Sometimes you have to smack it for the last two rounds. I used the concrete floor, but anything solid would work. Concrete maybe a little too hard, you can try an old table or workbench. Give it a try, it will probably help you get those last rounds in.

Mr. 21502,
Your method disturbs me, although I know I could probably hit my Glock with a fungo bat and still expect it to work. Thankfully, the issue is more or less academic now that the AWB has expired.
Same prob with G30 mags. I took mine apart, and sanded off a little (very little) plastic from the bottom legs of the followers. That lets them sit a little lower in the mag body when fully loaded.
G30 went in a trade, so there are no 10 rounders in my stable anymore!
