I not sure on what I want for competition this spring.
I'll be using a G34, but I can't decide if I should go with a rear fixed sight or adjustable one.
I'll be shooting white box 9mm.
I kind of want a durable sight for the rear like a Heinie and a front Dawson FO.
Although, I want my shot placement just above the front sight.
Any one here have expirence with Heinie and where the shot placement tends to be on these sights?
I did read Heinie's websight saying models G19,G22,G35 shoot 2-3 inches high.
I have a Dawson and it's great but it's not a sight I would want to rack off something in training.
Please help me.
Sights are a very personal thing - kind of like a wallet. I don't like the ultra thin fronts. .090-.105" is just too thin for me. HiViz has just come out with several new sights for Glocks. You might want to look at their website.
Aro-Tek has some nice FO fronts also. I keep going back to the Novak fixed rear. I see no reason for adjustable rear sights on a hand gun.
I shoot a FO front like an electronic dot sight. I just put the dot in the center and pull the trigger. The HiViz Tactical works well for this. It has a large dot in either green or red.
I figure fixed sights have fewer parts that can move or break. What is the point of an adjustable rear sight on an pistol other than a bullseye or hunting gun? Most competition with a handgun does not require changes in windage and elevation.

Fixed.
Fixed Heinie. One less thing to break. Simple is good.
fixed Heinie, nothing to break or get out of adjustment. If you shoot only one type ammo, you'll learn to adjust even if it doesn't go exactly to POA

Sevigny Competition sights or Heinie will serve you well.
Most of my competition guns have adjustables. My G34 has a Bomar, and the G35 has a Dawson. Both have Dawson FO front. The narrow front sights are the way to go, IMHO. Of the two adjustable rears, I rather prefer the Bomar, mostly because they have a reputation for durability, and I shot a 1911 comp gun for years with a Bomar, and because it has a little wider notch than the Dawson. What I don't like about the Bomar is that it overhangs the rear of the slide and pokes me in the gut when I sit or bend over. (Maybe if I lost my gut I'd fix that problem!) Both sights have worked well with no reliability issues. For carry guns mine have fixed sights, but for a comp gun there is nothing wrong with adjustables.

+1
My G35 gaming gun has Dawson's adj rear, and there .100" f/o front. I too would like the rear notch a little wider. One day I may throw it up on the mill.
On my carry guns it's nothing but fixed sights though.
For years it seemed like it was nothing but Bomars on competition guns. Now it seems the trend is swinging towards fixed. Am I correct in this observation?

Actually, I have heard from my local USPSA Master/limited state champ (fomeister on Glocktalk) that the Heinie rear with the Dawson front is a popular compbination because the Dawson front is very thin.
I still see mostly adjustable rear sights on 1911 competition guns, but the trend does seem to favor fixed with Glocks. If I experiment with loads and bullet weights, I want the flexibility of adjustables. This may not be as important on 9mm, but the harder kicking a pistol is, the more sensitive it is to bullet weight changes causing a change in poi. So, it's probably more important on .40 or .45 Limited guns. That said, I believe Sevigny uses fixed sights on all of his comp guns.

Heinie slant pro rear with a custom glock racing .090 wide front. Run this set up on (2) G22's for competition (USPSA). Use to run a Dawson FO .105 front, but found I liked a plain black sight better for accuracy. FO rocked up close, but not at distance. The .090 wide serrated black front offer a nice crisp sight picture for precision shots, but does not hold you back up close. YMMV. Nick-

I hope you mean .090 wide front.

Yep, I did. Thanks for catching that. Nick-
Fixed Heinie on my G34s I use the wider Race Cut model from Custom Glock.com

It seemed I could not get use to the wider rear sight and thin front sight, but I guess I didn't my Warren Comp sights much time. Plain iron sight just plain sucked for me unless it was high noon and the sun was out. Cloudy days or evenings forget it. I sure like the FO sights, but what effects does it have on distance shots? I'll go with a Heinie rear and try some different front sights. I wish Dawson would make a larger FO front that lined up like a stock Glock box sight. :) Any make one? lol

Here's what I did for sights on my G23, G17 & G26:
Put on a plain black MMC rear made for the Glock and a Dawson Precision Fiber Optical front made for the Glock/Novak rear. The front sight is .160 high and .123 wide. I opened up the MMC rear a little with a Dremel.
Looks like a small combat rear sight and it's adjustable. The front sight is very low and will fit any holster.
