View Full Version : CTC Grip aim problem
The lasergrips on my 649 revolver puts the dot about an inch to two inches (depending on distance) low and to the right of the barrel/point of impact. Without going to the range, I'm wondering if it's possible to aim the gun at a certain target and then adjust the beam to aim at the exact same point as the bullet would hit?
Thanks!

I wonder just how far it realy is off? I mean an inch or two... can be variances in your shooting and trigger pull. Without mounting it into a vice and firing its going to be very difficult to do much without completely eliminating the variance of holding on target and trigger pull before you could adjust within that fine a range. Your in the ball park now. And you might be as close as your going to get. The laser is never going to guide the bullet to its point. Much less is it possible to hold exactly rock steady on a specific laser point while firing.
I suppose if one was to be consistently off (and you seem like you are confident that it is) by that same exact point then one could vice the thing and project it onto a wall and measure over and up to the point you wanted, and adjust it to go to that new point. But I would think that is the only way to do it. Vice it and measure and move it to that new point.

Any target will work. There are no special targets or techniques to this.
Simply activate your laser, on target, shoot a perfect shot (sandbags can help a lot), adjust your laser diode to your impact/point of aim. It is just like scoping in your deer rifle.
How is that MK-II coming along?

See I want to do this at home. Logically, if I aim up the sights to hit dead on I should be able to see the dot right on target as well. The way it is now, aiming at a picture or wall or whatever, the dot is low and to the right.
The MKII is the gem of my collection ;)
Works great and is dead on!
See my avatar...it's pictured there.
Thanks!

Sorry EMT, No such target exists. However having a laser boresighter would work in the manner you are describing.
Ok this is really simple, maybe I'm just making it more complicated...
The gun itself is dead on. This means the sights work great.
However, the lasergrips are NOT dead on. This means the grips are not aligned correctly.
Both these statements can be proven because without using the lasergrips, I shoot dead on. USING the lasergrips, the shot hits high and to the left because the laser is low and to the right.
But bringing it back to the gun with stock sights...
Since we know the sights mounted on the gun function perfectly, wouldn't the goal be to have the lasergrips' red dot be at the exact same point that the stock sights point to?
For example, let's say I'm aiming my gun to hit the nose on my Jack-O-Lantern using the stock sights...naturally, shouldn't the lasergrips (when activated) put a little red dot right on the pumpkin's nose??
See what I'm saying? Using live ammo or not, the aim should still be the same at home as at the range. Right?
Thanks!

BTW, thanks for the info thus far :)
Keep it coming!

If you're gun is dead on at a particular range, just determine that range in the house, make sure the gun is unloaded, make sure the gun is unloaded again, then carefully dry fire and adjust until the dot is lined up with the sights. Should be good to go at the firing range at that same distance if the sights are dead on.

If the gun shoots dead on to your iron sights. Line the laser up to the iron sights at your given distance.
Simply stated if the gun shoots high left of your laser, your laser is low right, adjust the beam higher and lefter.
I can emphisis enough to sandbag, sandbag, sandbag. Reduce any user effect on the gun/sights.
