View Full Version : Rear heinie sight loose on G35
I went to the range last weekend and shot my G35 and noticed the groups were over to the left and tried to move the rear sight and then the groups were to the right too far. Then I tried to adjust again and slip slide in the middle from left to right a few milimeters and this will not do. Any help would be appreciated to tell me how to make the heinie rear sight tight again. Thanks for the help. Roy

Wish I could help.
Are you having troubles with the sight staying tight, or centering the sight so you get good groups?
I'm being nice here........
Dick Heinie has changed his rear sight. It now has a set screw that locks it in place. Email him and he will probably replace it. He did it for me.

Or you can just drill and tap it yourself. I don't remember the size but Matt from CGR would probably be more then happy to give you the size.

I have an old set of Heinies on my G35. They are the pre-set screw type. I had them installed for free by a dealer friend of mine. He used a "universal" sight pusher and didn't get a good seat on the rear sight. I brought the sights to him on my own, and was warned he didn't want to be responsible if the sights got "buggered-up".
The sights seemed fine at first, but then the rear loosened up after a few range trips just like yours are doing. My dealer felt bad, and offer to replace (at a nice discount) the sights with a set of Mepros he had in stock.
Instead, I decided to try a trick I thought might work. I ended-up bathing the rear sight in Blue Loc-Tite. That filled in all the gaps, and locked the sight down in placed. Hasn't moved for several years, and worked very well. I'd try that out first. It's a cheap fix, and can be removed if it doesn't work out.

Heinie's are made from relatively "soft" steel. Another problem is the goofy "Hourglass" shape of Glocks dovetail. The "Add a /Setscrew" has been a fix for over 10 yrs. Personally add two at the outsides of the oval seen at bottom of sights dovetail.
Easier though, is Green Loctite #609. If you don't care to spend the money on it can use the old 'Smiths trick if taking a center-punch to the edges of the dovetail and raising dimples along the bottom of the dovetail. Bewarned though that since the slide is very hard it may smooth these out to much when re-inserting the sight into the dovetail. Best to use some type of Loctite at any rate, as their dovetails are notorious for being out of spec. from dull cutters, etc.
