I've been running an EoTech on my Springfield M1A Scout for about a year now. Today I was out trying to get a 200 yard zero, but was having trouble getting decent groups. I was also working with some new South African surplus, so I figured that was it. But on a lark I pulled off the eotech and shot the irons. Immediately my group sizes cut in half. My technique was the same for both. So I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. Is the site bad, or is it some problem with the mounting. Any ideas on how to get a handle on what's screwing up the groups with the optic.

If its from a bench, I have no clue, other then cheek placement. With the EOTech your FOV is going to be a little higher then with the IRONS. Your Angle of Incident is also going to be a lot different with an EOTech then with Irons. It could also be the mount is moving ever so slightly after each shot. However, seeing as I do not have an M1A to test myself, this is all just guessing.
If you ever do figure out what is wrong, let us know.
Have you let someone else try and shoot your rifle to see if its the way you are shooting as opposed to the equipment?
